Former teacher at school and University, now PhD student and part time rock muso! Duality - both Domme and sub.

Don't know about the so-called "research" ... wouldn't get far in My research world ... but it's been interesting reading the wide range of things that people here do in their everyday lives!

I have to be alpha with the dogs, it's great to have someone else handle "a;pha" in my personal life.

We all submit to a boss and the details of contract at work, no matter the profession. You may earn more money as you climb the ladder, but it certainly doesn't mean that your autonomy increases in kind. I really don't see a correlation between profession and orientation. Anyone with an ounce of perception learns how to climb the ladder in an organisation: you don't get involved in gossip, you don't bad mouth anyone, when negotiating you understand that everyone has to feel that they've gained something from the situation, you work hard but understand the importance of not being earnest, you're courteous and professional at times. Anyone with an ounce of perception and willing can do that.

Edited to add: as you climb the ladder you still have stakeholders to satisfy, albeit different ones.

You have to deliver results and you have to be able to be assertive at times, though be diplomatic enough to not rub people the wrong way, knowledge, creativity and people skills do help, bottom line is usually results you deliver...

I don't think that your career reflects your orientation much, I met some dominants who would be a failure in most jobs, some dominants who have great careers, submissives who work in really terrible jobs and some who hold powerful positions.

Some of what drives me is the same in BDSM as it is when it comes to work, for me both are highly enjoyable, but then I confess to being a workaholic....
