Status: offline 		This is probably wrong, but whenever I saw a pic of him, I thought, what the hell is wrong with that guy?  Face of a geezer, ridiculous hair, and clothes straight from the funhouse.  You know that his lawyers were telling him how to groom and dress, and he was ignoring all of them.

From what I've read about his history, Spector should have been in prison or a loony bin years ago.  It's sad that a poor woman had to die for him to finally get his due.  He can't get paroled for 18 years; and since he's 68, he's undoubtedly going to die in prison.  Because of his celebrity status, I imagine he'll spend the rest of his days locked down in the protective custody unit playing checkers with the rock-bottom of the prison social caste.

Status: offline 		I find it hard to believe how long it has taken to get to this.  He was good at what he did with music and helped make stars and that may have been what this poor woman saw... but she didn't deserve to die for that!  He is a freak... and I just cannot get over how long this took!

Ronnie Spector (born Veronica Yvette Bennett on 10 August 1943 in New York, New York) is an American musician, and was the lead singer of the girl group The Ronettes. She is known as the "original bad girl of rock and roll."

Bennett was married to Phil Spector from 1968–1974, and took his name professionally. They adopted three children. Phil adopted Gary and Louis as a single parent after Ronnie left.

By her own account, he kept her a near-prisoner and limited her opportunities to pursue her musical ambitions. In her autobiography, she said that he would force her to watch the film Citizen Kane to remind her she would be nothing without him. Spector's domineering attitude led to the dissolution of their marriage. Bennett was forbidden to speak to the Rolling Stones or tour with the Beatles, for fear of infidelity. Bennett claims Spector showed her a gold coffin with a glass top in his basement, promising to kill and display her should she leave him. During Spector's reclusive period in the late 1960s, he reportedly kept his wife locked inside their mansion. She claimed he also hid her shoes to dissuade her from walking outside, and kept the house dark because he didn't want anyone to see his balding head. Spector's son later claimed that he was kept locked in his room, with a pot in the corner to be used as a toilet. Ronnie Spector did leave the producer and filed for divorce in 1972. She wrote a book about her experiences, and said years later, "I can only say that when I left in the early 1970s, I knew that if I didn't leave at that time, I was going to die there"[/link]. Phil Spector certainly is a musical icon.
He also appears to be crazier than the mad hatter, I did not realize he had been
spiraling downhill for over 30 years!

It goes to show, you can be talented and famous, and crazy as hell.
That poor woman was enamoured by his fame, and learned too late that all that
glitters is not gold or even sane!

Ronnie Spector was lucky to get out alive, I would like to read her book!
I am glad he was convicted, he needs serious help.

Status: offline 		There seemed to be a lot of guilt in that case.The victim there was so Snow White.Not condoning her murder,but the character of the victim does sometimes blur the evidence in a jury's mind...in that case it certainly made more plausible the introduction of alternative theories and suspects.

I know something about what you mean, I listen to the stuff he did with Lennon quite a bit & now I think of the whole complex stew when I hear 'Power to the People' or some such . . . ..

well, as much as I love john lennons early solo stuff, the real genius is in the sheer orgies of sound in tunes like 'river deep mountain high' or 'be my baby'

his xmas album gets a spin on xmas day here every year too.

he didnt have quite the control over Lennon as he did his pop records (in fact I recall in one documentary Lennon refusing to sing because he didnt like the way Spector was treating his voice... whereas years later when producing the ramones he had a gun pointed at them till they got a chord right)

Oh, yeah, totally forgot about the Ramones . . . . I listen to them as much as Lennon, now I'll be thinking of Spector with a gun to Joey's head . . . . Interesting image . . . . . .

Status: offline 		I don't think a lot of people {especially those under 40} realize how influential, powerful,
and legendary Phil Spector is/was in the music industry for years.
 
Phil worked with many artists and helped produce many hit songs.  Phil worked with many of the
greatest artists, {The Beatles, John Lennon, Ramones, Ben E King, Ronettes, Ike and Tina Turner, The Righteous Brothers} produced the hits {Happy Christmas {one of my favorite Christmas tunes}, Imagine, Let it Be, My Sweet Lord, Bangladesh, The Long and Winding Road, River Deep/Mountain High}, the list just goes on and on.

Many of my favorite tunes, are Phil Spector related.
His remarkable career started as a teenager and spanned over 40 years.
To say he was talented and influential is an understatement, I guess that is why he was given a pass and "allowed" to get away with his outrageous and over the top behavior for years.
