Hello all. I want to ask your feeling about kneeling on the knees. What is the significance of one being on their knees, even in prayer?

For me, I find it to be very peaceful when I am on my knees, especially in front of Master.  For some reason, it makes me feel more grounded, and it also makes me feel close to Him.  I enjoy being on my knees, but sometimes I forget how painful it is to get up again!  This is an interesting topic that Master and I often wonder about. 

Why do Asian societies have a tradition of kneeling, and what does it mean to them?

Kneeling is just fine as is sitting cross legged provided you joints aren't screwed or have bad legs, then a cushion is excellent..

When I sneak into Catholic churches for prayers for friends and family (I am paganistic) I do kneel. Any other time, its a pain the in knee literally (no cushions at Protestant churches).

In religion, kneeling is a sign of reverence and penance.

My reasons for kneeling for Master is basically the same plus it shows that his status is higher than mine and because he likes it.

Jews don't kneel in prayer. Maybe one of the reasons that it doesn't hold much symbolism for me and is just a pain to do.

Fox enjoys kneeling for me, becasue it puts him that much lower and in a more vulnerable position. Neither of us kneel to pray, we both stand. For him, the only connotation of the kneeling is his service to me.

Yes,Kneeling and looking up at Master is the ultimate. You are showing him respect and worship to him.Its a very submissive posture......Leanne

I don't feel that kneeling to pray or for practical reasons has any connection to D/s. For that matter, I frequently kneel even if I'm just bottoming in a S/M or bondage scene without any D/s power exchange. It certainly can be an expression of submission, but it doesn't need to be.

in Asian culture,
kneeling means humble , submission, accepting any demands from a master.
kneeling means dropping the ownership of oneself, both body and soul.

Such things should, by the careful and well mannered person, be enquired about along with all things which are considered not the done thing in that religion. Unless it is a no kneeling situation, then I would personally kneel at the appropriate places or make some form of acknowledgement of the reverence held by that faith. My point is that for me when visiting a Christian Church I kneel, not because it is expected but as a matter of respect to the Christian deities as I do for my own. I will kneel at the appropriate times when in the presence of British Royalist because I am a servant of the Crown. That too is good manners as well as correct protocol (At the appropriate times). Similarly I may bow my head, take my hat off or is in uniform, salute. Costs me nothing to follow protocol or exhibit good manners.

Pardon me?  According to your profile, you're a 19-year-old from "Peking."  One of the major political protests that took place in your lifetime was done with guijian, which I suppose could be translated as "kneeling to show deference to position, but still saying there's a problem here and we have to talk."   I could understand an American being unaware of this, but is this really something you have never heard of?

what kneeling means to me is that if I'm in that position for more then 5 minutes I won't be walking for a couple days.

Both my knees were damaged in different accidents. Popped one out the back of my leg playing basketball and my horse fell on the other one.

Master has decided kneeling is not a good thing for me *S*

And good manners are very important! Kneeling brings me to a very special place and i have done it all my life only for one man, whom i consequently married.

When somebody is kneeling before me and it is the seldom case of a gracefully kneeling man, i feel honored.

Religiously, coming from a german prostetant background in which kneeling is not happening, i have no personal experience. In buddism you can sit, you do not have to kneel.
