MasterShake69 -> Obamas mideast strategy, submission??? (4/7/2009 9:09:09 PM)

If this was George Bush the left would be going nuts, especially liberals like Bill Maher ;).

Why was it necessary to BOW to the Saudi Arabian king???

Did you get anywhere near this worked up on the occasions in which both President Bushes bowed to the Prime Minister of Japan?

hmmm it was either going to be that or Obama acting like Dan Quayle.....except Dan Quayle never actually said anything like it :)

It was also interesting to see that political interaction in Europe is not that different from the United States Senate. There's a lot of -- I don't know what the term is in Austrian -- wheeling and dealing -- and, you know, people are pursuing their interests, and everybody has their own particular issues and their own particular politics.

I was recently on a tour of Latin America, and the only regret I have was that I didn't study Latin harder in school so I could converse with those people.

I believe in Japan everyone bows slightly.  No other US president has Bowed to a Saudi King.

An old saying goes "when in Rome, do as the Roman's do."

Sure, our president may arguably wield the most potent military force in the world.  In Saudi Arabia (still a kingdom, mind you) our president isn't royalty; he's a man.  There's no weakness in offering respect regardless of the form, and there's a clear distinction between offering respect and prostrating one's self.

I highly doubt Bush would have worn his shoes in the Japanese prime minister's house.  This is no different.

Me thinks...perhaps an Obama obsession is being developed here...perhaps counseling is in order?...Is there a cure for OOD (Obama Obesessive Disorder)

A pity, but probably for the best. All in all.

Anyway, a bow is a bow is a bow is a bow. And a tempest is a tempest, in or out of a teapot.

Other US presidents have met Saudi kings without the giant bow ;)

then why the OBAMA coverup??  The Muslims clearly saw it as a BOW, but Obama says it wasn't a bow.  Is this BOWGATE ;)

"It wasn't a bow. He grasped his hand with two hands, and he's taller than King Abdullah," said an Obama aide, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Well, duh. The Queen of England, unlike the king of Saudi Arabia, gave up chopping people's heads off with a sword years ago. The man is just being prudent.

MadAxeman -> RE: Obamas mideast strategy, submission??? (4/8/2009 9:30:01 PM)

Obama needs their oil.
Maybe he's bowing now so you don't have to later.

MasterShake69 -> RE: Obamas mideast strategy, submission??? (4/8/2009 9:44:12 PM)

well a couple years ago the Saudis were often grouped together with AL queda by all the Bush bashers  ;)

Many on the left would have flipped a couple years ago if bush had done this....along with a denial that it occurred...lol

WHy is Obama lying about it now?  That the Bow never occurred.
