Sears $529.99 $75 rebate Kenmore http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_02629522000P?vName=Appliances&cName=Washers+%26+Dryers&sName=Top-Load --------------------------------------------- I have to say my last machine was Lowes and it could have lasted longer. I want just a basic machine so I dont have to go to the laundrymat. The number must include delivery and haul away old one. and tax. What looks good to you?

who has the best service warranty and hopefully they do not charge for that and it is included but being that the last one was a lowes then if u like that one that would be the best one for u wait do u not have someone come in to wash ur clothes and dry them that would be best which one is energy efficient

LOL. The broken machine is maybe 6 years old. I dont want used- as most the time- they are on the last leg. I missed out on a free washer per freecycle. So a big part of it is delivery. I waited thru the winter- because I did not want the winter to break a new machine. (I dont heat the place much)

What about using the good old sink and some soap or washing powder method and your good old hands??? that saves a lot of hassle to decide which one to buy [8\|]

6 years? The machine I'm using now was used when I got it and that was 11 years ago. Still going strong. I paid $50 for it so the annual cost has been about $4.50 a year. If a new machine, at $500, lasts only 6 years that is $83.00/yr. I could go through a lot of $4.50/yr machines before I'm convinced new is better, or a better value. Appliances are typically items I buy used as I have a belief they were made better in days of yore. There are limits, of course. The stove I use belonged to my grandmother. Probably an early 50's model. When I moved to the country I had it converted to propane, a new thermo and gas lines put in, some new stanless handles fabricated. It will probably outlive me. In re your house fan I recommend one that is belt driven with a fairly universal motor mount. When the motor goes out (if it does in your lifetime) replacing the motor should be a much less expensive undertaking. Additionally you can alter the CFM by mixing up the pulleys and/or shivs to find the right rate for your purposes. You might try looking around some older industrial areas and see if any have been tossed out lately. I'd go for anything Dayton. Good luck. Uncle Nasty

Avoid the Roper, if you have to, find a good used Maytag. The Whirlpool is a step up from the Roper, a tiny step, that is. Not sure who makes Kenmore now, so I can't offer an opinion on the quality. By the prices you've mentioned, you are looking for a top loader, in the low to mid range. Avoid Frigidaire, Roper, & if possible Whirlpool.

Personally, I still like Kenmore appliances, but that's just because we have had great luck with them. Of course a naked chick cleaning clothes on a rock by the river would be an interesting alternative, but I would have to assume that would be higher maintenance.

A good washer should last 15-20 yrs minimum. Like Nasty, I bought mine used for $75. Was 5 yrs old a the time, had it for 8 yrs next month. Still going strong. and for the naysayer subrob it is a Whirlpool. Just the same, stay away from the budget names like Roper.

My current broken washer is a GE, heavy duty. I live along the river. I could just beat the clothes with a rock. lol. One group I post on- we were discussing electric bills. Well one poster- hand washes the clothes. Foot washes- in 2 5 gallon buckets- somehow. lol.

the whirlpool duet frontloader i got earlier this year is made in Germany. There was a 3rd store. I dont know if I have time to go there. It is a GE. Which is my broken one. I am 1 person in the household. The old place- we had to replace to sewer. There was a few back ups into the machine. The spinner spins but does not spin it dry. I read 6 years is the time that it is cost efficiant to fix. Both houses- the machine is NOT heated. Garage, 1st place- unheated enclosed porch this place. I spend about $8 a week at laundrymatt. Washer only as I hang clothes up to dry. Being that I dont go overboard with heat house- which this season has me hurting, I use more clothes. layers- they get sweaty. I can wear some item a 2nd day, but not the skin layer and - so forth. The grant money I earned- was to pay for this. It floors me...I cant use it to pay down my mortgage- but I can buy a wash machine with it. go figure. The work I did on the house doesnt qualify as I was supposed to wait. argh.

when we bought ours, hubby told the salesperson to cancel the delivery/instillation fees and he would buy it. To my complete surprise, it worked!

I really dont like the idea of "rebates". Jim bought a 20k kitchen from Lowes. There was a $250 overcharge. Supposedly the computer cant issue a credit- it can only be made good with a giftcard. At that point- I personally would have cancelled the order. But he did not. The point is- as long as we the public allow these tactics, the inch insideous into our life.
