In an upmarket part of town, two young men (age 20) are looking at the pricey goods in a jewellers' shop window.  One of them is on crutches, plaster cast from ankle to thigh.  What happens next?

(shakes head)

They have bright police officer's I see!  A man on crutches isn't likely to be taking part in activities where he might need to run!  In this one... I would have to agree with the question asked.  It was a matter of color and stupidity!

The police came up with this lame ass excuse:

""Having now reviewed in detail what occurred between the officers and the two men whom they believed to have been acting suspiciously, it is now apparent that, while the situation was heated, the actions of the police officer in applying handcuffs to one of the men was less than a proportionate reaction to the requirements of the situation.
"The officer has been advised regarding this, and an offer of apology extended to the two men.""

It's not enough.

Licks, how are people reacting to this in England?

Maybe it was those annoying soccer jerseys or those silly lil' shorts...

Anyways, here in the states we no longer have to worry about such racism now that we elected Barack as President.  Everything here is perfect. Our police never would act in such an atrocious manner.  Not here in Chicago, at least.

You never know the cast and the crutches can be a ruse, it  wouldn't be the first time someone fakes an injury to have a hidden item or something.

I thought of that... but still... even a fake injury with a cast is going to be hard to run with.

Well, it has long been known the UK police are institutionally racist. It happened to my uncle, he got pulled for driving a near top of the range Mercedes, luckily for him, he had a dictaphone and he secretly taped the whole lot, questions were asked how he could afford to own such a car, the answer being simple, he worked for it, a perk of a high power position with an international company that does not see the colour of a person, only their abilities. This was about ten years ago, and I heard the tape and remember it well, the police interview changed from a supposed minor traffic offense to what was he doing to drive such a car, and can they look in his boot (trunk)

ugh...
this kind of stuff just gets so bleeding OLD.

question -- would the cast and crutches of a white guy be so easily considered "potentially fake"?
i'm pretty sure they'd be considered real. =p

holy schnikies.

Nothing like a racial profiling situation to ruin someone's day.

What? He wasn't going to break the window with the cast and then use the crutches to reach for things through the broken window?

And then hobble off with the goods to the pawn shop?

I mean, I have read of people being that stupid in News of the Weird ...I even knew the woman who robbed a bank from a taxi....

But geeze, just for loitering while black?   Maybe they needed Chris Rock there to coach them, like his "How not to get your ass kicked by the police!" video  http://goiv.com/view.nn?vid=1369.

One day, probably in some alternate universe, we'll get past the whole skin color issue and really discuss the culture issues instead..

If you ever worked or know someone who worked at a large department store you would know they profile AGE not RACE.

15-25 year old males in groups are most likely to commit robberies.     That’s why they would watch two 19 yearold white male and not a group of a dozen 70 yearold black females.      Now someone with a baby carriage and no baby would be watched very closely no matter what age ;)

well i've worked for a retail store (a relatively big one)
worst job ever
but the people i worked with were more concerned with race than anything else
they didn't SAY it so much in plain english around me, for obvious reasons, but yeah =p they DO profile by race, they do every single day.

where i worked, young white kids stole tons of CDs and pokemon/yugi-oh cards while the associates were busy tailing black people. =p a group of white teenaged girls came in and swapped out their shoes =p i alerted a manager but nothing happened to them.
not to say that black people NEVER stole anything, just saying, pleeeeenty of theft went unnoticed because they were making assumptions about certain ethnicities of people that weren't always true.

policies may claim that certain age groups are more likely, managers may teach that, but people DO single you out based on race.

i'm coming out of a store here in town, right, with a whole bunch of other people. TONS of other people, who happen to be white. all i have is a bag with cotton balls. as i'm coming through the little alarms with aaaalll those other people, the alarm goes off, and who gets called back? me =p
nothing but clearly visible cotton balls =p

yeah, but they don't profile by race, right? okies :)

I'll have to incorporate this into my next bomb thread.

Be watching for it, this one is so dangerous I am composing it in a text editor.
