OK, I admit it, I collect stamps. I have a very modest collection now, focusing on early American stamps and the Silver Jubilee of George V from the British Empire.

But when I was a kid, I had thousands. Not worth very much, but prized nonetheless. I had a friend whose mother had access to the mailroom at Kodak; stuff came in from everywhere, and some of those stamps ended up with me. Helped me learn Geography, among other things.

Hello HK,

I have some stamps saved just because the artwork is attractive. Some people have thousands of dollars invested in their collections though. Do you get yours more for the investment aspect or because they appeal in other ways?

As a youngster I started being a rock hound and would usually put some in the goldfish tank because they had pretty colors and textures. Looking back it is a miracle that the fish survived. And a fish tank is a very soothing environment to have in a home.

I collect statues of dragons, gargoyles and mystical creatures, copies of Egyptian art, and of course music and books.

I was an avid comic book collector for years (with a particular fondness for Archie). I just sort of lost interest in it. I still have a couple of boxes of comic book sitting in storage. I bought a stamp collection in a comic book store about 10 years ago. I think I paid 10 bucks for it. I never have gotten around to seeing what they're worth. I might do that this weekend.

I collected coins as a kid. Stored them in blue coin collecting books that you pressed a coin in the slot for each year. I filled most of the books completely. I had other coins going back to the late 1800's. It helped me learn a few President's names and the discipline to save money and be organized. In high school, I cashed them all in for beer and weed.

Any comic books or graphic novels by Joseph Michael Linsner. I am working on the digital artwork in a year or so. I just happen to like his work because the storylines appeal to me.

As a tween I collected stamps. My mom was a banker and a lot of her international customers sent her really neat stamps.
Now I love to collect lamp work beads and vintage crystals. I also have a collection of "suns". My son has given me a sun pendant or pin for Mother's Day for the last 25yrs.

I tried stamp collecting when I was younger but never really got into it. I collect postcards now.
My aunts collection is a lot more interesting, she collects elephants.

I did until I got married and learned that if you are going to collect anything the first thing you have to get is a safe to protect your collectibles from step kids with sledge hammers in their hands and larceny in their hearts.

As a youngster I remember when we discovered the joys of pitching coins, and one of my friends lost an entire coin collection throwing them against the wall in an alley. :(
