ORIGINAL: ThatDamnedPanda Enough, already. We get it. It was all Bush's fault, Bush did it, it's not your fault, you inherited this mess from the republicans, we get it. OK. Stop your fucking whining and tell us - specifically - what you're going to do to fix it going forward. And then just fucking do it. Uh??? What's he supposed to do in a month? I'd like to see him do what he promised to do - "hit the ground running", was the phrase he used. All throughout the campaign, he pledged that he would have a comprehensive plan in place and be ready to start implementing it from Day One (another phrase he used rather often). Well, here it is Day... what? 34? 35? Does anyone know yet what his plan is? If they do, I wish they'd share it with the rest of us, and maybe even let him know what it is, because he doesn't seem to know either. For the most part, all we hear him mention (in between blaming Bush) are vague goals and objectives; or more accurately, not even goals and objectives - just intentions. We're going to shore up the banking system, we're going to stabilize the housing sector, we're going to reform Wall Street, we're going to do this, we're going to do that, blah blah blah... well, great, but how? What is your plan, Mr. President? How are you going to actually accomplish these things? We don't know, because he doesn't seem to feel any pressing need to share that with us. He's had a lot of time to crystallize some sort of an action plan. He's only been in office a month, true, but supposedly he had his people start working on this within days of the election, 3 and a half months ago. He was quite clear about that, made sure everyone knew he was going to be ready to rock and roll starting January 20. And all we've heard since then have been, essentially, more campaign speeches - Bush is no good, the situation is terrifyingly dire, republicans are to blame, but don't worry because Obama's going to fix everything. Nothing specific. And the more empty speeches he gives, the more people start to think it's because he doesn't know what he's going to do. And while I'm not yet one of those people, I can understand why they do think that, and frankly it'll only take about another week or so of this "it may be necessary to partially nationalize the banks no it won't that would be a bad idea" crap before I am one of them. This business of giving speeches every couple of days reminding us how bad things are without telling us what he's going to do about it is not what we hired him to do. This is not the way he represented himself in the job interview. Now. It may well be that this is just a case of a new man on the job taking longer than he expected to get his hands wrapped around a problem that was more serious than he realized. That happens all the time in every occupation, and while if that's the case it would not be particularly reassuring news, at least it would be a plausible explanation for why they're getting such a slow start. I could live with that, i could understand it. I think most of us who supported him would feel the same way. But for god's sake, Mr. President, if that is the case, at least have the maturity and the professionalism to refrain from constantly criticizing your predecessor. Yes, we get it. It was Bush's fault. And yes, I totally agree. But you know what? I don't give a shit at this point who's fault it was. Bush is off somewhere doing his part to lower the average IQ in the state of Texas, and he is no longer relevant. I hired you to find a solution to the problem, Mr. President, not spend weeks and months barking about how the problem isn't your fault. Until you've actually started to do something substantive to fix it, please desist from this petty sniping - because quite frankly, at this point, you have not yet done anything more to fix it than Bush did. When you do, you'll have earned the right to start digging at that miserable bastard Bush once again, and I'll cheer my TV every time you do. But right now, it serves only to remind us that you've done nothing yourself, and make you look like a disappointingly small human being.
