Reality check...It's too late baby, now it's too late. Need to make them all citizens, they have a certain time to register or else, and then take a real stand on all illegals in the future.

And how are they supposed to do criminal background checks on people who have false i.d.s? The record keeping of their native countries is at best primitive. And, that's what they said back in 1986.

I would prefer other nationals not come here to improve the quality of their lives. I imagine those that do are motivated and capable people. It is my belief they would be better served in the long run, as would their fellow countrymen, by using their energies to change the system and circumstances in their own lands. And I'm reminded of a line I came across a few years back: "Calling an illegal alien an undocumented immigrant is like calling a crack dealer an unlicensed pharmacist." Uncle Nasty

If anything it supports what some of us have posted already - that the overburdened social systems in this country are being overextended by the addition of illegals using the system. If 20% of the nation is indeed living at this degree of poverty (and that would make it 1 in 5, a number I find a little difficult to believe), illegals adding to it certainly in no way benefits this country and it actually implies that a worthy citizen (or even unworthy, but a citizen nevertheless) may not get access to services he or she might otherwise have been able to benefit from. My point is just an opposite: illegals are one of the most exploited group of the society. Removing illegals would not change anything economically for better. Slaves during old times got also medical care. Problem with illegals as I see it is rather cultural than economical (meaning fast influx of people with different language and cultural traditions).

My mother is an immigration lawyer, and in fact, most illegal aliens pay excess taxes because the IRS is better at tracking people down than the INS, and in addition will not receive benefits such as social security, Medicaid, welfare, because they are afraid of being deported. the last number i heard (around 2000) was that the average was $80,000 more are paid in taxes than received in benefits by illegal aliens.
