If the burden of organizing and hosting a munch falls onto one person, I could definitely see how it could it canceled when that's person's life demands attention. The best way in my experience to avoid that is never force or allow one person to shoulder everything. Always have at least two and if you can please have them from different households or families. If you know who the host in question is, may I suggest you drop them a line not to bitch or complain but to say "I'm sorry to hear that, I was looking forward to it. May I be added to the announcement list so I know when the next one is?" This might make them feel 1) less guilty or 2) more appreciated. Both are problems when you are in positions of authority in any organization or group.
