I believe that the amount of romance in any relationship (whether bdsm or vanilla) is going to depend on the individuals in the relationship. I am fortunate enough to have both a vanilla relationship with a spouse and a bdsm relationship with my Mistress.  Both relationships have a great deal of romance, but I can't say that one is necessarily more romantic than the other.

However, I must admit that my Mistress gets to see a side of me that I do not normally allow anyone to see.  I can allow myself to be vulnerable before her, knowing that she will take care of me and not take advantage of that vulnerability.  I have a very deep psychological and emotional connection with her, and I trust her implicitly.  I would not say that a bdsm relationship is more romantic, but I would say that it can be more emotionally intense.
