Status: offline 		I'm not so worried about scammers, because frankly they wouldn't be able to get much from me anyway, but the fakes I'm wary of are those who say they want a relationship, or to play in real life, but never want to get out of messaging.  They say they want to get to know you better, but somehow never bother asking you questions and relying to yours with short answers.  And when asked about their answers, they claim they are just shy.  To me, a public drink or coffee is much preferred to typing.  You can't see the eyes or body language which is another good indicator of fakes.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Status: offline 		Hmm well thats the kind of message that Ive gotta say that people arent fakes, people may lie but that doesnt make them 'fakes' they are still actually people. Just because they dont want to meet you doesnt mean that they arent real.

Every sub worth their salt have been called a fake and to quote the film normally its because "s/hes just not that into you"

My question was strictly related to spotting scammers. Someone trying to get some type of monetary gain by fraudulent methods. I should have made that more clear.


But it did remind me of a different type of fake. Men posing as women and vice versa. I hate those.

I am a fake too... what you see...read and hear of me is not the absolute true me. Now if you were to meet me...get to know me...you may begin to trust me. But even then I could be fake.

There are no guarantees on CM or life.

Just have fun …who knows, you may meet your life mate here…but don’t be surprised if you don’t.

In regards to the topic... usually it's easy to tell if they're scammers. If they ask for any personal identifying information (early on, too), or money, I automatically assume that they're trying to scam me (because, really, they are).

Otherwise I just move along with the idea that everyone is who they say they are, until I see the glaring errors in their story (which DOES happen).

I understand that people have the capacity to be not their true selves. Both on and off line. That's not what I was referring to.
I was asking for technical details to look out for such as the page that was linked. I was aware of most of them but not the cell phone/text message one.

Personally, the initial "warning signs" when I see in a females profile that make me suspicious of someone who claims to be in the US are:

1. "Native American" when the photo is obviously a Caucasian (not a definitive answer, just an indication. Some non-Americans don't understand that Native American doesn't just mean an American born citizen).

2. A weight that is about half or less what you'd think it should be in pounds (a kilogram is 2.2 lbs, so sometimes the African scammers get confused ...)

3. Profile pics that look like models, and professional photography (likely taken from any one of a million porno or other dating sites).

4. Short, grammatically questionable profile text, especially where the use of pronouns is missing, or the normal word order (syntax) is uncommon.

5. Failure to mention much of anything about BDSM.

6. Talks about wanting a "Christian" man (while occasionally mentioned in real profiles, African scammers often mistake the level of "religiousity" of Americans on this site).

7. The profile is for a "Dominant" women who wants to submit, or a "submissive" women who wants to dominate.

8. A location which uses a combination of two common locations such as "Los Angelos, NY", or Manhattan, Tennessee" (doesn't mean such places don't exist, just something that looks suspicious and a quick Google search can answer. "Manhattan, KS" actually exists, for example.)

9. A profile that tends to be a little ... I dunno ... too vanilla? ... and talks about "true love" in some format.

None of these by themselves "prove" the person is "fake" and a scammer ... but the more points a profile scores, the greater the likelihood in my opinion.

Status: offline 		lol you could always mean me. the same guy, twice has started talking to me, then called me an African Scammer. Not to mention, he contacted me, both times and not the other way around. I went so far as to give him my IM. When he asked who I modeled for, I gave him the website. All of this because I don't trust anyone online, and want a year to get to know my master before I will sleep with him... Is it so wrong for a girl to be careful? Or not want to be raped and then killed? Any advice on this is helpful.

While some might consider pushing to move to IM quickly to be a red-flag, I wouldn't. 

To me, someone wanting to stay communicating in email beyond the initial introduction indicates someone who can't think on their feet or communicate effectively on the fly.  In my experience, email is the easier method for people to use if they are wanting to lie, deceive existing partners, or have no intention of communicating for anything other than entertainment in their spare moments.  If it was me they were interested in, I wasn't going to make it easy for them.

Simple.  Just do not tolerate a conversation on the exchange of money in context.  If it comes up, be suspect and don't anticipate anything in your best interest to occur.

Don't send it, don't offer it, don't request it.
