Ok I'm pretty good about spotting fakes. I mean fakes as in spammers, frauds etc etc not as in fake sub or fake dom.

If they are from Nigeria, look like Caucasian super models and their English is at the level of a 2nd grade school boy from tibet and they message you and offer their lives to you they are probably fakes.

But what about the rest. I'm pretty paranoid so i think everyone is a fake. But i'm talking to someone on yahoo (we just started talking) that seemed rather in a hurry to get to the IM stage. I said oh well this has got to be a fake, but they had good english, actually referenced a few things from my profile in conversation, didn't ask me to go to a cam/porn, and didn't automatically agree to every proposition i made.

So if they are fakes, what are they being "fake" for? What other types of scams should I be aware of?

First of all, if their English is not that good, that does not neccesarily mean thay are a fake--this IS a world wide site and contrary to Ameican arrognace, English is not the first language in many countries.

Secondly, we have many people on here who have dyslexia, that doesn't make them a fake either--just at times typing challenged--so a little tolerance.

Now for the rest? Hmm men posing as women, subs posing as Dominants, Dominants posing as subs, brunettes posing as blondes, people posing as BDSMers. nice people posing as meanies, meanies posing as nice people-- golly, the list just goes on.

Words of wisdom, one persons poser is another's salvation. If the proverbial sandal doesn't fit, a polite no thank you and move on.

Only you can make a determination over whether or not someone is 'real' to you or not.

I would pass up someone if they're local and won't meet for coffee within a few weeks.
It may not mean they're fake, but it's a good indication, to me at least, that they don't want to move beyond cyber.

There is a plethora of reasons why someone would be "fake" but i dont really think thats the biting issue as it would get wayyy to complicated analysing what everyone said.
I just take things at face value and if someone wants to tell me they are a disowned princess from the rebublic of qwatanga then so be it.(As im currently not doing princesses from that specific region i would move on)
What is important is having ones own online security measures in place and should i meet someone from here for example then face to face it would be no different than any other new person i meet in life and id make my decision then.

i get dubbed as a fake all the time...

i'm fully dressed, speak well, am well written and don't want to fuck around with a bunch of e-mails, instant messages or phone calls prior to meeting, and, i was looking for 'beat and fuck' sessions; thus some think i am going to be a man in disguise, a spam-bot or a prostitute...

the only way to really spot a fake is if they run for the door when you suggest a real-life, face-to-face meeting; then again, they could just be chicken shits.

If one is overly sensitive and paranoid, can they see the truth of what could be real if they are constantly trying to see the scam or ways to 'get' them? From what I know of paranoid and fear of getting hurt or taken... you couldn't see real if it bit you because of fear. I would stop trying to see the real in other's until I found the real in me if I were that afriad... because if you are that afraid, how can you really be true to yourself or anyone else if fear is your protective mode? Using fear as a guide of protection confuses things.

I can generally spot a fake, but, have to admit I had one that really takes the cake. He said what he was searching for, and it was exactly what I had dreamed of as the ultimate relationship. His expression of love to me came on rather quickly, and that made me step back, but, then I thought that possibly he is the Master for me, and this is for real. He is from the UK, and wanted to have a house near me to live, work from there, and build on our relationship till we were ready to take another step. He needed my account number to place money so I could find and purchase a home for him, so he could just fly here and have a place. I contacted a friend of mine who is a realtor, that told me this is a common scam that involves eventual identity theft. I asked him if he could deal with her since she has more knowledge in this than I. After not hearing from him for 2 days (stated he was having internet difficulties) he said how sad and unhappy he was that I didnt want to pursue a D/s relationship with him. I tried clarifying, but without my account number for him, all was null and void. And he pursued me on good ole CollarMe.

That cone freaks more than a few out when they see it. lol Relax... the little emblems at the side where the cone is... come in different forms according to how many post you make. I think you will lose the cone around post 26 if I remember correctly. Welcome to the boards! lol

To the OP
I tend to be a skeptic, so I guess that can go with the word fake. I think though if I was going to use this board for dating purposes, which I am not, I would not be in a hurry to get so involved with anyone. Yes if they lived near by, I would meet them for coffee or Dr. Pepper but still would not be in a hurry to play. That is just me though. Plus they would have to meet my 'vanilla' intersts more then Ds at the time.

You are vanilla for your few first posts (I think the first 25). After that it will change automatically to other icons depending on the number of posts.
