The superintendent of the Pittsburgh public school system has already decided that city schools will run on a two-hour delay on Monday, because the Super Bowl means a "late night" for the students and teachers."  I copied that from yahoo and wanted to see what other people thought. Should the day after the Super Bowl, aka Super Bowl Monday be declared a National Holiday and give students,teachers, and other workers the day off? For further information and insight, you can check out www.SuperBowlMonday.com.

It depends upon who wins.  If Pittsburgh wins yes.  If they lose, wait, I'll need the day for sure.  I guess it doesn't matter who wins,  Yes.

Years ago my grade school would allow kids to go home and listen to the World Series on radio and TV if you were rich. Baseball was THE sport then even bigger than the Super Bowl today.

Event: Superbowl (Sunday, Feb 1, 2009)
Teams: NFC = Arizona Cardinals
           AFC = Pittsburgh Steelers
Question: Should the Superbowl be made a national holiday because kids in Pittsburgh are getting a two hour delay to the start of school on Monday Feb. 2?

Answer: NO!!

You think because the superintendent of the Pittsburgh school system was intelligent enough to give the kids a break that it should be a national holiday??

Let's recap the above stats for the AFC (keywords being) PITTSBURGH STEELERS. Ya think just maybe they are going to be partying a little harder than most (other than Cardinals fans)?? I for one enjoy the game but have no deep interest in it like Steelers and Cardinals fans do.

So unless you are a responsible intelligent adult who can control your alcoholic consumption, I see no good reason to give anyone a day off to sleep off their hangover. If you want the day off, burn a day of vacation time or call in sick and don't get paid.

In Fact if I were a Parent I would be running the super intendents ass into court because reguardless of when school starts my Tax Dollars are paing a SALARY so we are paying them to come into work late.

That Superintendent would be Fired if I lived there.

The Superbowl is a GAME. JUST A GAME. Responsibility remains that parents should have the wits about them to put the children in bed when they are supposed to be I MEAN THE game starts at 6:20 at the LATEST on the East Coast. It's a 2 to 3 hour game Kids in bed by 9

As far as I am conserned I would be running his ass up a flag pole.

I think as a parent I'd just be happy I didn't have to get my kids going so early and wouldn't care much. Cause if they are going to be like me... it's gonna be rough. [:'(]

servantheart -> RE: Super Bowl Monday??!! (1/31/2009 2:09:34 PM)

When we as parents set this kind of example, we have NO right to complain about "today's kids" having no motivation or self-discipline.  Talk about shameful and hypocritical.  Disgusting. [sm=m23.gif]

Yep.....we definitely have our priorities in the right place, don't we?

KatyLied -> RE: Super Bowl Monday??!! (1/31/2009 2:27:29 PM)

Yea for the kids.  I wish I could get a 2 hour late pass for my job on Monday morning.

ladylucky32 -> RE: Super Bowl Monday??!! (1/31/2009 2:56:03 PM)

The teachers in our area take too many days off as it is. I really don't see the need for this one just so the teachers can sleep in.

kittinSol -> RE: Super Bowl Monday??!! (1/31/2009 3:00:13 PM)

It's a stupid idea, but why do people bash teachers at the earliest opportunity? It never ceases to amaze me.

I don't have any kids, don't live in Pittsburgh, and don't watch or care about the Superbowl.  I really don't care what they do.  When I was a kid, we had schools that would let out for the opening week of deer season.  So a couple of extra hours on Monday morning isn't that big of a deal.

ladylucky32 -> RE: Super Bowl Monday??!! (1/31/2009 3:09:39 PM)

If you lived in this school system you would not ask that question.

The super has his priorities all messed up in this situation. Education is more important than recovering from a drinking binge and sporting event.

pissdoll -> RE: Super Bowl Monday??!! (1/31/2009 4:13:34 PM)

This was done for one reason and one reason only...

for every student who takes the day off, the school district does NOT receiving funding.

with the economy as it is, i am guessing the school district cannot afford to lose funding for the day.

smart move on the Super's part, really.

it's all about dollars and cents, kids.

MissIsis -> RE: Super Bowl Monday??!! (1/31/2009 4:18:04 PM)

No, It is a bad idea.  It is bad enough that some adults are setting an example for the kids about these games being more important than anything else going on in the world that day. The schools should not be feeding that mentality.  Maybe they should just move the game to 5AM on Sunday morning instead.

slaveboyforyou -> RE: Super Bowl Monday??!! (1/31/2009 4:24:43 PM)

It's only a couple of hours folks.  Setting a bad example?  Give me a break.  Why is it people insist that all our days off must coincide with a historical or religious commemoration?  What's wrong with just having a day where people are allowed to goof off for no other reason than a ball game?  Lighten up for fuck's sake.

servantheart -> RE: Super Bowl Monday??!! (1/31/2009 10:57:57 PM)

Nothing wrong with doing some serious celebrating when your team wins, but not at the expense of your obligations as an adult.  I like the idea of moving the game to Saturday or starting the game at 5 am on Sunday.  If the game is that important, surely fans won't mind dragging themselves out of bed before sunrise to cheer their team on.
