I have noticed that most profiles mention hypnosis as a curious topic and usually the comment is beginner. is that because hypnosisis is not practiced or it is just not wanted or just too dangerous to submissives.

alysia -> RE: Hypnosis (1/30/2009 9:44:34 AM)

Hypnosis isn't a game and in the wrong hands can be dangerous and cause immense psychological damage.  To allow someone entrance to your mind is a huge thing (ultimate submission to some) and takes a great amount of trust.  This girl would not allow just anyone to trance her... not that she is allowed to anyway, that is strictly Master's perogative.

Possibly because it takes a lot of time (and money for the classes) to learn to do it well and people have varying levels of acceptance (is that the right word for it?) to the process. So even if you get good at it, there is no promise that it will do much to/for the person it is practiced on.

oceanwynds -> RE: Hypnosis (1/30/2009 11:03:03 AM)

I am a past life regressionist and using hypnosis is not a toy. I would be very careful with anyone trying to use it on me.

vield -> RE: Hypnosis (1/30/2009 11:19:54 AM)

Lots of people are curious about hypnosis, which does not mean they necessarily wish to include it in BD/SM play or to experience this.Yes hypnosis is a serious business.

However I think that any time someone is in a state of trace of any degree, they are experiencing some sort or degree of hypnosis. To me this includes states reached through meditation, tantra, reiki or healing touch healing, accupressure/puncture or religious ecstasy. Also the states we often call sub space or domspace I think are states of trance, no matter how one got there.

I would include most out of or beyond body experiences, including past life and other life experiences.

oceanwynds -> RE: Hypnosis (1/30/2009 11:27:58 AM)

To me those are altered states of consciousness and easily achieved, but different then hypnosis. Hypnosis is aimed for a focus journey/goal.

mark33 -> RE: Hypnosis (1/30/2009 3:18:58 PM)

My one and only experienceof hypnosis was by you tube. By link words mistress hypnosis. They came accross as either amateur or light hearted with some exceptions . they were expert but said they only wanted to relax you mmm not really convinced of that.

kdsub -> RE: Hypnosis (1/30/2009 4:06:08 PM)

More than a few people have tried to hypnotize me without success. Its not like I didn’t want to be…I did. It just would not work on me.

I’ve come to believe there is no such thing…  I think it is only allowing yourself to be fooled into thinking you are hypnotized.

I know many swear by it…and so do some medical professionals. I guess it takes faith that it can happen…something like faith in religion.

At least for now I have no faith in hypnotists.

FR

I am really suseptible to hypnotism but I would never allow someone who wasnt trained to do it, it can unlock some funny boxes in your mind and the person has to know what it is that they are doing so therefore how to provide the appropriate aftercare.

MstrPBK -> RE: Hypnosis (1/30/2009 4:40:54 PM)

The process is used by several areas of the medical profession and the Police. Apparently these professions have used it very very effectively. Others on this topic would be right hypnosis can open some pretty odd doors and parts of the brain if not used carefully. I like to direct persons to two rather odd TV references that discuss hypnosis in a pretty direct way:

1) The old Dick Van Dyke Show that looked at the subject (yes it is black and white; but I do not know the exact title of the show). From what I have heard Dick Van Dyke actually did experience post hypnotic effects from the filming of the show off stage - several days later even.
2) Recently the Discovery Channel let the MYTHBUSTERS do a episode about the subject. They seem to have covered it thoroughly and in a well rounded manner.

Hopes this helps the discussion.

My personal view is that hypnotism should be left to the professionals.

I don't take it all too seriously, and I would crack-up laughing if a dom tried to hypnotize submission out of me.  I always have a little chuckle when I see hypno-doms advertising themselves.

Hypnosis is nothing more than being in a relaxed and open state of mind, and then saying, thinking or hearing positive affirmations and letting them sink in.  I think positive affirmations are a really good thing, but I don't believe one has to be under "hypnosis" to think positive thoughts or for positive thoughts to be effective.

*PSA*

recording of a medical doctor shown doing a relatively mild operation on a patient using only hypnosis for anesthesia: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8N0SuPWJVFM

start at 3 minutes 45 seconds

I've seen other, more complete, recordings of doctors performing more serious operations(deep abdominal work, mastectomy, etc) using just hypnosis for anesthesia as well as a few using it to reduce/eliminate bleeding.

There are many different uses for hypnosis, and a lot of them I think should be left to professionals to use.  Also, there are some uses which I think are usually safer for laymen to integrate with their play.  There are a number of minimal requirements of things to learn before anyone uses hypnosis for any purpose.  What kind of people you should never use hypnosis with unless you have been trained.  What to do in the case of an abreaction.  How to remove post hypnotic suggestions.  And, what it is relatively safe for you use hypnosis to do.

Hypnosis, like any other tool, can be used to help or to harm, and it can be applied competently or clumsily.  Respect it and you will most likely be able to use it as well as or better than your car.

marie2: You're absolutely right.  And, you're completely wrong. ;)  Affirmation is a tool under the name of "hypnosis" are listed many other tools.  I don't want you to believe me.  I only hope my response has hypnotised you in to thinking more on the subject, and questioning your beliefs on the subject.

vield/oceanwynds:  It all depends on your definition.  It couldn't possibly have been a post hypnotic suggestion when that special someone said "I love you" in their special way, and you felt that really good feeling, could it?  Or was it their conscious intent to evoke your response?  Was it yours to have that feeling?  Does it matter?  I sometimes find myself wondering if "hypnosis" is ever not occuring...

MstrPBK:  If I were teaching a class on hypnosis, and MYTHBUSTERS submitted that episode for their homework, (from my impression of it when I watched it) I would give them a C-(if it were anyone else, I'd hand it back and say "I'll give you one chance to do this over").  Although, I can understand why.  Hypnosis isn't really a good subject for their normal audience.  There weren't any explosions.

LunaVenus -> RE: Hypnosis (2/2/2009 9:04:05 PM)

Ive been certified for about 15 yrs. Only used it for orgasmic control suggestions with one slave. Very effective.

snappykappy -> RE: Hypnosis (2/2/2009 9:14:20 PM)

would any doctor ever use it for doing a heart transplant of lung transplant or any other major surgery

i saw somewhere a doctor did self surgery for taking his appendix out and then had others sew him up and finish it
talk about balls

LunaVenus -> RE: Hypnosis (2/2/2009 9:21:43 PM)

Hypnosis is standardly used as an alternate form of anesthesia in Asia. Patients can choose either general anesthesia or hypnosis. In  general they are more into a balance of right and left brain practices in overall health than we are in the West.

Edited to add, some dentist here in the West are also offering " holistic dentistry " with hypnosis to ease the pain and soothe the patient during dental procedures.

Jeptha -> RE: Hypnosis (2/2/2009 10:07:56 PM)

I've always been curious about hypnosis, and have read a little about it.
What I've read seems so simple compared to the really unusual and sometimes spectacular results.
I haven't made the time yet to practice it, so I remain curious.

sintyl -> RE: Hypnosis (2/2/2009 11:17:53 PM)

I've noticed that in the personals section, many list hypnosis as a hard limit. Are there that many people that are either afraid of it or have had bad experiences?

I've been doing really deep hypnosis techniques and NLP for about a year and a half and as long as you know what to do when something goes wrong (because it can happen) then everything is alright. It's all fun and games when someone knows the right commands.

I'm with you: the whole thing seems pretty ridiculous. Right up there with ghosts and demons.
