While I am not ready to nominate the Beatles or any other band the greatest ever (too subjective,I happen to like Led Zep,but thats just my opinion)the Beatles are easily the most influential rock band in history.As one earlier poster noted ,everything changed after Sgt.Pepper....nothing that came before could compare,nothing that came after wasn't in some way influenced by.

As for the original post... I prefer my pre beatles influences, eg jazzz, blues, new orleans ragtime etc, but the beatles are the most influential in the past 50 years in my humble opinion.

Seriously, name me another guitarist who has come up with as many riffs and hooks as George Harrison. From the fedback A that starts "I Feel Fine" to the opening lick of "Birthday", to the Sitar intro to "Norwegian Wood", nobody in Rock even comes close to his creativity. Ringo came up with some immortal fills, too. And the lyrics, man...

No, no. People always want to do that when talking about musicians. I don't know why people think a handicap should be given to rock guitarists. I get irritated when I talk about guitar with people, and they think Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eddie Van Halen, Jimi Hendrix, George Harrison on and on...are the greatest guitarists. Off the top of my head; Chet Atkins, Les Paul, and George Barnes blow George Harrison and all "great" rock guitarists away.
