Here's an interesting link. In an effort to discuss the top ideas of the electorate there is a serious site dedicated letting the new administration know what is on the mind and important to them. It provides some of the specifics behind how they define 'Change', and gives a little insight to what they had in mind when they cast their vote.

The Change.Org site (Link: http://www.change.org/ideas?order=top#listSection ) is funded by a number of 'Non-profit' partners. Its a good way to get a feel for the 'pulse' of the electorate.

The Top 10 Ideas so far:

Four of the top 10 are 'health' related. If you go to #11; 5 are drug/health related.

The "Secretary of Peace" will do what (besides have a massive staff and jet around the world wasting taxpayer money like Hazel O'Leary)? Make it illegal to look at others the wrong way? Outlaw hatin'? Set up reeducation camps for mean people, as defined by whoever is in charge?

God, we got a bunch of geniuses out there.

well Merc, that is a mixed bag.

Repeal Patriot for sure.

But I am not so sure about getting too gung ho over legalizing drugs.

...and a dept of peace wont work. we have to call it dept of war. so as it does the opposite.

George Soros is an agent for the British Empire. He can not be trusted. An economy does not grow per drugs. Not in the good sense. Soros is the biggest drug dealer and drug money launderer in the world. He needs to be stopped.

I agree with these as a goal. Some of them unrealistic though. The only way realistically to make grid semi-green would be to make nuclear energy the most important source (it is not fully green as it takes substancial energy to enrich Uranium). To achieve this in 10 years power stations building needs to start immediately. Solar and wind technology do not provide the needed volume.
There is no free healthcare. The question is rather how to redistribute wealth and serve people who can not afford healthcare. I would support single payer system but I see no realistic way to introduce it considering US government ineffectivness, incompetnce, corruption and disconnect with reality in general. More realistic is Obama/Hillay2008 plan that currently is just to allocate tax money to insure the poor.
Gay marriage issue can not be solved easily as it is not the matter of legislation only. Most of US population is against it and to change peoples political, religious and moral views is extremly difficult in short period of time.

Free Single Payer Health Care
Free? The government can't GIVE anything....Every program involves taxes and that means that I will have to pay higher taxes to support

wrong, a hospital ER has to treat a patient and if not keeping them in their facility, insure that they are transferred to a municipal facility or a facility

End the war on drugs

Since we don't want to win this war I agree that we should end it. If people want to destroy themselves with drugs...be my guest. If anything, selling legal cocaine, meth, heroin, for pennies would reduce the number of assaults and robberies, empty the jails, destroy a major source of income for the sub-culture of the world, and make a lot of people happy while they are still alive.

Save Small Business From the CPSIA
If I made small objects for sale I guess I would agree. However, if you want to save small business you can start with tax credits and reduce the minimum wage for high school kids working part time in my business. I had a 40% increase in wages and had to fire a third of our crew.

Pass Marriage Equality Rights for LGBT Couples Nationwide
There already are civil union equality acts protecting LGBT couples. I'm bi, and have a lot a gay friends. However, it seems to me that their fighting for "marriage" in the equation will be a major negative for a movement that has so much success since I was a kid. Maybe another time...but not now. With things getting so tough for so many people, we don't need "volunteer scapegoats" for the wrath of people.

Make the grid green in 10 years
This is the dumbest and most dangerous of all the ideas. People suggesting this have no idea what "making the grid green in ten years" would mean in terms of bankrupting an already bankrupt country. You do know people, that windmill farms ALL have back up and working fossil fuel generators that are required since the wind is not constant, storable and dependable. We should drill for natuaral gas which is plentiful in this country and Canada, drill offshore for oil, and spend what billions are necessary to use coal and create jobs in my state of Pennsylvania, for example. This "global warming" is a bigger ponzi scam that the $50 billion ponzi scheme that just hit Wall Street.

Get FISA Right, repeal the PATRIOT Act, and restore our civil liberties
Please...please tell me who here has lost any civil liberties by the enactment of the Patriot Act. It's all bullshit.... The Patriot Act should be strengthened. We are in a feakin war people...and some are leading us down the primrose path of peace and kumbiya....It's not the real world.

a pre-schooler? Now if someone suggested a "Secretary of Piece" that would get my vote.

No thanks - it would just create more addicted bums trying to feed off the system. I actually have no issues with people who use drugs. Except that a lot of them get so addicted that they fuck up their lives and the lives of people around them and then expect others to pay for it.
Free Single Payer Health Care
If you can figure out a way to pay for it so that we don't add to the 184,000 per person national debt. I'm all for it.
End the war on drugs
Lets make it a death sentence for drug dealers at any level. That would end the war.

Yes the new lead laws are fairly stupid. Unfortunately a lot of people are stupid and/or unaware. If that was not so you would not need wording on coffee cups that says something to the effect of - BE CAREFUL THIS IS HOT!

How about this we create an online college with very low costs so that people who want to go can work and pay their way through. It is more than possible but billions of dollars in colleges and universities is against it.

Violence has solved and will continue to solve major issues. (Just ask most subs butts about that!) Any time you think you can convince the rest of the world that that is not true then great lets set up that agency. Until then I want lots of guns, bombs, plains, tanks, etc. I think war has little to do with peace it has more to do with money and resources and taking them by force.

While many of the above points are great they are all impractical due to the lack of caring, lack of financial resources, and lack of personal reponsibility. Not to mention that the people with the money and power have a vested interest in seeing that they do not happen! The best they will probably ever do is counterbalance the things that they are against. Unfortunately not enough people care enough especially when what they want to do affects their finances. Good luck.

I'm not holding my breath on the things I'm working to change - homelessness and hungar for people and pets in the USA. Here's an idea - end corruption and greed in America. Never happen - most of us are so greedy that we borrow just to maintain our lifestyle. It sucks but that is reality!!!
