MstrPbk, I find the wording of your initial question offensive, "types of slaves" is suggestive of present circumstance being indicative of character, a flaw. The current economic climate can hit anyone regardless of orientation. How do you ensure your financial security, if I may ask?  I, myself, am currently unemployed due to redundancy just before Christmas when the arse end of the conveyance market fell through and my career went with it. I would hate to think anyone viewed me as a 'type' due to circumstances beyond my control and certainly would not view anyone else in similar circumstances as a lesser human being unless there was a clear history of being workshy, but that would have no correlation to the present economic climate.

Aww, Greedy, you are also adorable x

I just wondered if anyone else found the wording of the initial question of the OP offensive.

I  have worked my arse off my entire life, no one has given me anything and I've ensured my grown up boy has the foundations (in bricks/mortar, with mortgage all paid) for his future security.

My admiration to LockIt for coming through something that no one should ever experience and it pisses me off greatly when someone looks down their nose at others as being somewhat of a 'lesser quality' of human being. We can all lose whatever we have in a heartbeat, we can't kid ourselves otherwise.

IS the world economy disaster actually effecting the types of slaves that I am encountering. I seem to be finding more slaves that are out work or need housing (eminately sp?).

Has any one else noticed this in the last month or so?

Slaves certainly don't corner that market.  I just received the following email from someone today.  I don't know that the individual is homeless or out of work but they did sound desparate.
quote:

I am seeking a submissive woman or couple. I can relocate or you can come here to lease an apartment or purchase a home. I can pretty much come in the next month. I'd love to have someone willing to please me.

I am a strong, loyal, and an outwardly friendly Dom seeking a prized possesion. It can be difficult sifting through profiles looking for the ideal submissive/slave. But, I can relocate, and someone can offer there service to me nearly immediately. Call this the craigslist advertisement for CL.

Can you provide a place, serve another?

With the economy the way it is, people might resort to desparate measures, claiming to be something they are not - but that isn't an indication of the 'types of slaves' you are coming across, it is just an indication of the character of each individual who makes that choice.

I don't fault someone for seeking security, after all - it is one of the most basic needs in a hierarchy of needs (see Maslows Hierarchy of Needs.)  Psychological and Safety needs are basic, and when faced with having both threatened due to economic crisis, people will do what they can to survive.  Now, while I may not fault them, I do still hold them accountable, personally, for the integrity they display while doing so.  What you are seeing has nothing, however, to do with orientation.  I've seen people exploited and doing the exploiting from both sides of the kneel.

Ok the crisis sucks..having no house etc.
But..how to say this...mmm....having to "sell" yourself for food and a roof to a D. Would suck.
If you want to help a sub/slave...do it without owning her. And keep both your respect.

When one looks at a slave as an 'it', I find it offensive, but it isn't my life.  I find most that he says is something distasteful and typcially don't answer, but I think the topic is a good one for the time's we are facing now, because I have seen it.  I do not blame the people who have tried to hook up because they face hard times and I am not beyond helping them, I just don't want to be lied to.  I fully expect and have expected to be teaming up with someone/people in this crisis and have thought about it for many years because of my own experience in life and knowing how easy it can be to become homeless.  I do however, do some reseach now after helping people who were nothing but a scam.  Even the experienced can be fooled.

When someone is going through something like this, every survival skill they can use will come out and other's will use anything to continue their scamming ways already there without a real reason for being in a situation.  I want to know who I am bringing into my home now that I have more experience with doing it and have been fooled a time or two.  Those background checks can be very interesting!

When I used to do my speeches, I would explain the types of people we had in the shelter.  I would tell them about so and so and this other person and their situation.  Making the people real to those I was speaking to.  I would then before I ended, ask how long would it be, if something happened, before they would be homeless.  After I would speak, people would come up and say, two weeks, a month, six months.  Most said they had never thought about it or that it could happen to them.  I had one lady that had always been wealthy and had never done any housework at all.  We had to teach her to clean to do her chores.  We had people from every walk of life.

Exactly, Lockit.  I don't think the economic crisis does anything more than bring into focus, through stress, the integrity that is already there (or lacking - in some cases).  Those looking for a free-ride, or runnning a scam, would probably be doing so no matter the economic situation.

Integrity, in my opinion, comes into play in how a person needing security goes about seeking it.  If they are honest and up-front about their situation, what they are hoping to find, and what they are offering in exchange - and both parties are in agreement - then it shouldn't be an issue.  If one pretends to be someone/something they aren't or implies a commitment (emotional or otherwise) that they don't really feel, then the lack of integrity IS an issue.

The original post seemed to imply a lack of integrity of those slaves, simply because of their life situation.  Sometimes, one's life situation is out of the individuals control, at least until the situation is resolved.  It isn't any indication of that individual's nature, integrity or potential.  As unemployment rates and home foreclosures rise, people are having to reassess what their priorities are, and what their goals are to survive and succeed, and perhaps some are approaching the lifestyle dominants as a life-line. If that is what the OP is referring to, I could understand, but his wording seems to imply differently.

I know that when I was laid off, not o long ago, I felt as if I didn't have anything to offer and withdrew emotionally.  It wasn't until I was back to work that I felt 'worthy' to continue pursue the relationship. It was a miserable feeling, and not at all based on any reality of  my actual worth.  People on hard times have a hard enough self-image without the additional judgements levied upon them without knowing who they are as individuals.  Just my 2 cents.
