Meanwhile, Coleman was essentially kicked out of his  Senate office today pending the results of the upcoming legal challenges. Which I found at least some satisfaction in hearing, but then I'm a nasty little prick when it comes to republicans, especially republicans like Coleman.

Schadenfreude does not become you, honey-bunch.  At least not in a public venue.

I'm not very happy about the reactions to this on the federal level.  I wish that the Senate had just stayed out of it until we Minnesotans had worked it out, don't you?  It's none of anyone's business but ours until we get this figured out.  I guess other folks can have an opinion, but they don't get a say.  It's up to us and everyone else should butt out until MN is ready to tell them what we've decided.

Somebody must be dumping LSD in the water supply of the Twin Cities... they seem to like their oddball characters.

Minnesota has a very engaged and well-informed electorate.  Our population is on the whole better educated than that of most states.  We had the highest voter turn-out in the country in this last election.  We're well represented and well respected amongst the movers and shakers of the world.  And we like our oddball characters.  We're more about substance than about style.

Take a look at Jesse Ventura. http://www.voters4ventura.com/  The things that he wants are things that I think a heck of a lot of folks here want.  I agree with him on a lot of issues, and I voted for him for Governator, and still feel good about that.  I voted my hopes rather than my fears.  If you look at what he stands for you may understand why.  I'd never vote for him because he's thin-skinned and a whiner.  We didn't know about that back then - no one really challenged him in the campaign because they didn't think he could win.  I pay attention to who he's supporting now.  Anyone he supports is probably someone I'd like, definitely someone I need to take a serious look at.

Al Franken is a comedian.  A very politically active, well-informed, progressive-minded comedian. Fred Grandy - Gopher from "The Love Boat" - served 4 terms as a Republican US Congressman from Iowa.  He got the same kind of crap in his initial run for office, but did a damned fine job.  As did Republicans Sonny Bono and Ronald Reagan, both from the entertainment field.

Yep...like I said Minnesota likes their oddballs...so does Iowa and California to name a few more...in Missouri we seem to like assholes sad but so.

The next step is that the state must issue an official certification of election, but if i recall correctly they are legally prohibited from doing so until all court challenges have been resolved. Since Coleman's attorneys have stated quite unequivocally that they will file a suit tomorrow, the state can not certify Franken as the winner of the election. This will probably go on for at least a couple of weeks, perhaps longer.

The Coleman team had 7 days to file suit.  I don't know what kind of time frames there are for follow-up suits, but I'm assuming that since we're a pragmatic people, a judge or judges will call for the coin toss before too long if neither side concedes.

I'm thinking the initial suit will take at least a week to resolve, because they'll obviously want to make sure they get it right. And I would expect Coleman to appeal to the state supreme court, which probably would take only a few days for them to stamp "NO!" on it and toss it out the door. If i had to guess, I'd say about 2 weeks for the whole thing to run its course, but that's just wild speculation, with nothing at all to base it on. Just a guess, but I wouldn't bet so much as a dime on it. It could just as easily go a month or more. It'll just depend on how many ways the Colemanites can find to drag it out.

Thanks, but, well.... you know me. Even my self-discipline only goes so far where republicans are concerned.

Well, yes and no. Technically, he's no longer a Senator. His term expired, either yesterday or today (can't recall which). The rules of the Senate are, if you're not a Senator, you don't get an office and you don't have access. So from that perspective, it doesn't bother me as much as if they'd done it just to fuck with him. Makes it a little easier for me to just sit back and purely enjoy it.

I've thought very highly of Missouri since they elected a dead man to the Senate over Ashcroft.

Yea... that was a big mistake...we turned him into the Attorney General...look what we got... the Patriot Act

But I'll have to admit...he can sing pretty good.

Don't worry, Franken won't try to unify the country by invading IRAQ, demonizing gays, subordinating science to religion, and passing tax cuts for the wealthy.

I'll be calling his constituent services number the day after he's sworn in. Personally, I'm getting kind of excited about the idea of having a Senator who could get me a date with Janeane Garofalo.

Al. Franken was effective in mobilizing democrat election troops. He did not really win (the votes were even within margin of error) but he will be seated. I still remember "hanging chads", nipples and other goodies from 2000.
Will be fun to see him perform his comedy routine on US Senate podium.

What margin of error? Every ballot was counted therefore this is the outcome as decided by the people. Al Franken won the election by a slim but real margin.

What does this mean? I'm sorry, but I can't make any sense out of it.

OK, we agree on one thing, anyway.

Ooh, I'm thinking the hubby will be more of a Franken supporter now.  He hadn't really thought of this aspect.

Well, it's too late for him now. He should  have thought of that before he went and got married. She's mine now, all mine.

Tell ya what. It it makes him feel any better, once I meet her and we get hooked up and she moves in with me - I'm thinking somewhere around mid-February, most likely - I'll have you guys over for dinner. But that's about the best I can do, because she and I will be busy together most nights.

LOL, oh, this is going to be fun!
"Senator Franken says Leftists are "too conservative" for him."
"Senator Franken says the earth really is flat!"
"Senator Franken says Democrats "out of touch" with mainstream America."
The (real) comedians will have a blast with this guy!

I don't like Franken, but I do think that, if nothing else, the transcripts of the Senatorial debates will be a lot more entertaining once he's there. I'd say the same thing of Rush Limbaugh won.
