MzMia -> Dick Clark last night.......... (1/1/2009 8:41:21 AM)

I happened to watch a few minutes of " Dick Clark's annual rockin New Year's Eve Show",
last night.

I really had no interest in most of it, I just wanted to see Dick Clark!
I did not realize he was well enough to even be on the show.

Well, Dick Clark was there, Bless His Heart!
He speech was slurred {due to his stroke}, and he had a lot of difficulty speaking.

But I understood him!![:D]
I was thrilled to see him on his show!
I had tears in my eyes, as I listened to him talk.
Dick uses a walker and a wheelchair these days.

I appreciate Dick Clark, the staff of ABC, and everyone that allowed and assisted Dick to do the show!!
I love to see the "powers that be", getting it right!

Greetings..

We were going to watch his special last night and waited through a zillion commercials to see this iconic man but after being subjected to a few minutes of the pussycat dolls we decided to switch to the Las Vegas coverage. He's definetely made his mark on this globe.

I totally understand!
I had the sound down, MY music on, and I just turned the volume up

when I saw his face on the screen.
I only really listened to him...and a few minutes of the Jonas brothers, please don't tell anyone.
they are kind of cute.....[;)]

I've got August 10th in the Dick Clark pool.....

nevaehangel -> RE: Dick Clark last night.......... (1/1/2009 9:27:35 AM)

I must admit though He still has the light in his eyes! I felt so bad I even had tears in my eyes listening to Him speak but he's a good man with a big heart and loves doing that special every year......but Daddy mentioned has anyone else noticed that Dick Clark NEVER seems to age? the miracles of Hollywood

Evility -> RE: Dick Clark last night.......... (1/1/2009 9:37:38 AM)

He's been making appearances back on the show for a couple years since his stroke. This is not the first year he has been back and he looked and sounded better this year than is previous years. It's good to see him back on television even if it is only for a cameo. What an incredibly influential figure in American pop music culture.

Cough...omg.  You are so fucking bad.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Dick Clark last night.......... (1/1/2009 10:11:09 AM)

I thought he looked and sounded MUCH better than last year, when he was pale and really working to speak clearly.  It was good to see the enthusiasm back.  [:)]

OneMoreWaste -> RE: Dick Clark last night.......... (1/1/2009 11:34:44 AM)

I guess I'm in the minority here- I actually thought it was sad and a little unsettling to see him that way [:o]

Aileen1968 -> RE: Dick Clark last night.......... (1/1/2009 11:43:38 AM)

No, you're not the only one.  I found it uncomfortable to watch.  More uncomfortable than that God awful music that was played.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Dick Clark last night.......... (1/1/2009 11:45:50 AM)

Lots of people have issues with the ill...  I have had cancer patients, stroke victims, and a few other treats in the immediate family, so My perspective might be a little different.  I just saw someone nearly felled by illness who came back to tremendous functionality.  I am sad that he had a stroke in the first place, but really glad that he is doing so well.

Emperor1956 -> RE: Dick Clark last night.......... (1/1/2009 11:48:22 AM)

I was a bit creeped out by the few minutes we watched him.  Especially because it was pretty clear that NONE of his "guests" had a clue who he was (come on -- you think the Jonas Brothers give a damn about him?).

But more to the point -- I have June, July and August in the Ryan Secrest death poll.  A boy can dream, can't he?

windchymes -> RE: Dick Clark last night.......... (1/1/2009 11:49:53 AM)

I felt a little uncomfortable too, but I also felt that he wouldn't be there if he didn't want to be.  Strokes are such awful things, they can take your whole life away from you in an instant.  I admire him for wanting to get his life back and be out there again, so his life can be "normal" again, at least for him, and if only for a couple of hours once a year.  I admire his spirit.

I don't mean this to be judgemental of Aileen and OneMore, not at all. It is difficult to watch, and sad.  But I'm glad he didn't just give up and go into hiding.

Kinda like Grandma Walton did when she came back on the show [;)]

Aileen1968 -> RE: Dick Clark last night.......... (1/1/2009 11:54:02 AM)

He would have looked better with a spray on tan or something...

popeye1250 -> RE: Dick Clark last night.......... (1/1/2009 12:03:38 PM)

Oh shit! I missed the PussyCat Dolls!

CatdeMedici -> RE: Dick Clark last night.......... (1/1/2009 12:20:08 PM)

I find it unsettling that he is being promoted in this manner. I am torn between heroism for a handicap and sensationalism.

Lashra -> RE: Dick Clark last night.......... (1/1/2009 1:55:22 PM)

I watched it and had a hard time understanding him, BUT I understand it is due to the stroke he had. I was happy to see him as I've been watching him since I was a young child every new years eve.

Now maybe I was half asleep but, I never saw the ball drop. It just sort of sat there glowing and that kind of ruined the whole excitement thing for me. But all in all it was ok.

PanthersMom -> RE: Dick Clark last night.......... (1/1/2009 5:43:05 PM)

i thought dick clark looked great!  i understood him easily, my oldest son has cerebral palsy that affects his speech badly, so i deal with it every day.  as for the suggestion that he's being exploited, quite frankly i think that's an insult to the man and his courage and determination to come back from such a devastating stroke.  does anyone honestly think he HAS to do this?  no, he wants to do the show every year.  disabled people have just as much right to live as normally as possible, they shouldn't have to hide so others won't be "uncomfortable".    [sm=2cents.gif]

This is just as I feel also.
We should not have to go into hiding because we have
had a stroke, are in a wheelchair, or any other disability
that can happen to us if we live long enough.
Years ago, they would never have shown him on t.v.
Thank goodness we have evolved further than that!

mozartsfuneral -> RE: Dick Clark last night.......... (1/1/2009 8:19:06 PM)

I understood Dick Clark but i thought he looked a little orange and patched together. I don't really know WHY they continue to air him on the show...but i suppose it's ok if He wants to be...Out of curiosity how old is he??
