He is 79, which is really not that old.
Eartha Kitt passed away recently and was still singing and dancing in her 80's.
It is not age that is slowing him down, it is the fact he had a stroke.
Do you feel people should be hidden because they have a stroke, or a disability,
or are just aging not perfectly?

While 79 really isn't that old, not everyone can be singing and dancing at that age.
I don't feel like need that people should be hidden because the have a stroke or a disability
I in fact have several disabilities, and would be a hypocrite if I thought so.
As far as the aging thing is concerned I'm just stating the fact that he looked orange...I think that all people who look like oompa loompa's should be hidden away until that fake tan crap is no longer an issue.
He should look like he wanted to be there, true his stroke could have paralyzed his face etc, but it just felt his heart wasn't in it as it was in years past.

I wouldn't write it off as discomfort over him being "sick". In all honesty, when I first changed to that channel, I had to watch for a minute to determine whether it was actually him, or a CGI representation- he looked *that* unnatural. There was too much artifice involved for a celebration that's supposed to be about vitality and hope.

you're missing the point.  yes, he is impaired, he's not hiding that.  he has fought back from a devastating stroke and recovered as much as he has BECAUSE of hope, the refusal to be beaten by this illness and the hard work he has put in to recovering this much.  seeing dick get better over the last couple years has made me happy for him, he could have slunk off into the shadows and died quietly, no he's out there fighting to get back a good portion of what he had and giving others the hope that they could improve too.  i don't know how much the new year is about vitality, unless you take into account the vast numbers who drink like fish, party all night, take a nap and be up and running the next morning.  but it definitely is about hope.  dick has shown us what hope, guts and hard work can do.

Dick Clark's segments are a testament to humanity's enduring legacy as a force that just will not stop for anything and any alien observers should rightfully be quaking in their boots at what our civilization will unleash upon them if we manage to survive long enough- Not that we will be uncaring overlords but that if anyone is entertaining any hope of conquering or extinguishing us, they better be prepared to pay a stiff price.

How many of us would be dead by now if it was not for our advances in even the last fifty years?  I can think of five people without even trying who would be dead by now if they were born 100 years earlier, who have contributed to the continuation of the human race.

We *have already* overcome so much.  With any luck, we will continue to do so.  We have eclipsed the old story of dragging bitches off by their hair and slaughtering any perceivable threat (which makes it that much more fun for us:) ) that we can indulge these primal remnants and revel in them without much thought of fear of consequences.  There is no dark age approaching; we and our offspring and our children's offspring will do great deeds and we can all take comfort that the future will be better off for it.

We have already beaten the odds.  It's our task to beat them more.

I saw Dick Clark's 1st New Year's appearance after his stroke and just felt so bad that either:
a) He really felt he still needed to prove himself - after all, he's already a legend
or
b) Someone was pushing him hard to do it just to make a buck off his name

While I appreciate that it took a lot of hard work and courage for him to get back to the point where he could be there, I really feel that after the 1st year back he should have hung up his mic and concentrated on living out his life. 

I suspect part of his desire to do New Year's is that he probably does not want to just fade away.  Personally, I'd rather remember him as the "forever teen".

It wasn't the stroke or speech that bothered me about him.  It was that he looked like a wax figure.  Like he had too much plastic surgery.  His teeth looked fangy too.

I didn't see him but not too long ago, there was a piece on yahoo about "stars" who've used a bit too much Botox.  OMG!  They were just scary looking.

It's possible that whoever did his makeup just did a terrible job for whatever lighting they used?
