If I may point out, without the intent to offend any one nation or group, the ending of the the Imperial Colonial period of Most European countries contributed to the problems being experienced in the former colonies. However, many of the former colonies would rather point a finger at who they kicked out or who left voluntarily than to assume any of the blame themselves. With few exceptions, when Great Britain or any colonial power left a former colonial possession, it was in a "dont let the door hit you in the ass" situation. The soon to be independent country wanted their former rulers out and as soon as possible. Which of course led to more than a few problems. For example while Great Britain was in charge of a colonial possession, at least the infrastructure was being maintained. Once they left, that became the matter of the new government, which was unstable at best, non-existent at worst. Colonial expansion only works when the colony actually becomes self supporting, otherwise the parent country and the colony suffer. At the end of the Colonial era, which, for the most part, was shortly after WW2, Empires were shedding for three reasons, one they were on the losing side, or two, they were on the winning side and damn near broke, or three, they were recently liberated and in no condition economically to maintain colonial possessions. Some countries tried, such as France, in South East Asia, but failed (can we say Dien Bien Phu?) Now, some sixty years later, these former colonial possessions are still in the same basic condition they were in when the colonial powers left, primarily due to civil wars, and who are they going to blame? Everyone else. Now, here is the rub, with the interdependent world economy, in all honesty, there is not a country on the planet with the resources to save themselves let alone any one else. So, I have the following suggestion. We let the world economy tank, go through a couple of decades of depression, wars, plagues, pandemics, chaos, and senseless violence, and let the survivors figure out what to do at the end of that period. Now granted a few billion people will end up dead, all the wonderful, shining cities will probably burn to the ground, a few thousand years of art, literature, and science will be lost, but..... By the time it is all said and done, the planet ecology will have recovered, the air wont be polluted and best of all, no more reality television!!!!
