Oh, man. That really is a shame. I admit I'm no expert on her life story, but from what I do recall hearing, she was a very nice person in real life. Rest easy, lady. You can be sure that you'll be remembered long, long after your passing.

SassySarijane -> RE: Sad News (12/11/2008 8:08:00 PM)

How sad. Rest in peace Bettie.

Lynnxz -> RE: Sad News (12/11/2008 8:17:38 PM)

Wow, I had no idea she had such a difficult life.

RIP.  She was two years younger than my paternal grandmother who died in 2006.  My maternal grandmother is a little younger.  That whole generation is going away, and it's just sad.  If I ever have chiildren and later grandchildren, I wonder what I will talk about.  My grandparents talked about being hungry with no electricity.  My paternal grandmother rode in a horse drawn wagon to school.  What the hell will I talk about?  "Well, we only had 13 cable channels when I was your age."  "When I was your age, we didn't have robots......we had to hire Mexicans."  LOL.

"Well, when i was your age, we all had these things called 'jobs'. We used them to earn what was known as 'money', with which we would purchase what we used to call 'shoes...'"

Unfortunately you may end up talking about those same things.

LaTigresse -> RE: Sad News (12/12/2008 2:56:17 AM)

Since she lived to be 85, I refuse to be sad. What an exciting and full life. I celebrate it, and the joy she gave so many. We are fortunate that we have so much to remember her life by.

Good job Ms Page! Thank you for everything!

lronitulstahp -> RE: Sad News (12/12/2008 3:14:17 AM)

I've been a Bettie fan since long before her revival of interest in the early 1980's and Dave Stevens using her as a regular character in his comic, "The Rocketeer." She was in one of the earliest issues of Playboy, and she was a kink celebrity back when that had the same tabboo as being a satanist or something.

The camera loved her. That smile, and those bangs, and that figure, were the stuff dreams were made of. Somehow, you always knew that she was having FUN during those photo shoots. Behind the scenes, there were storms involving family, legal troubles and fights against mild mental illness. She came through all of it still loving life, and in the end, a passion for helping others through her church.

85 years is a good run, especially since she remained sharp and able to care for herself almost right up to the end. (I hope I get as good a deal, when the time comes.)

Bettie Page: mother, wife, photo model, and indomitable spirit. Rest in Peace, Bettie. You'll remain loved by others for decades to come.

CallaFirestormBW -> RE: Sad News (12/12/2008 5:51:24 AM)

85 years is a good, long, life. Cherish, and grok in fullness, Betty!

DarkSteven -> RE: Sad News (12/12/2008 7:14:22 AM)

Damn.  She belonged to another era, but bridged it to today.  RIP.
