She had a long life- but a turbulent one as well.  What I'm saddened about is that with all her fame, she was unable to get useful treatment for the mental illness which dogged her.  There are a lot of similarities with Marilyn Monroe- both iconic sexual figures struggling with depression.  I suspect that there's a link between the willingness to fight against the taboos of a more prurient time and mental illness- you have to be crazy to push back against that repression- most sane people wouldn't.

We may all owe more of a debt to Bettie Page than we realize as we sit here typing away our responses on this board.  We have the freedom to explore our sexual fantasies in ways that would have been undreamt about earlier in her life- not just the technology, but through changes in our society that she helped bring about.  Here was a woman who was the object of many male fantasies, and she certainly embraced the kinkier side of sex in front of the camera.  If you were a man, wouldn't you want to be whipped by Bettie Page?  I know I would....

Actually, no. Not in "real life". She was never really into it, so it didn't do anything for her. So it wouldn't have done anything for me. She was just a model - hotter than hell as far as that went, but there was nothing "real" there. As hot as she was when she was posing, I never had any Betty fantasies once I found out she was vanilla.

Some years ago i used to refer to her as BP when speaking about her and my friend asked who the hell is BP???Instantly i responded that BP stood for more than just British Petroleum...true story.Rest in Peace dearest Bettie.
