There really isn't any set rules for meeting timeframes, but i think it truly depends on location, safety, and comfortability.  When i chose to meet a Dom from my area, it took about between 1-2 weeks due to some serious background checks, but with my Master, it actually took 18 months as He was serving in Iraq.  It wasn't the best of situations, but it gave Us time to develop first as friends, and gawds it was well worth the wait!

If it was me I would expect-
If the Dominant is in  the same state I would expect a meet with in a week but after screening and viewing them on web cam a few times
If  the Dominant is from out of state... with in a month,people that work need to arrange vacation time
Out of the Country could be a very long time I would guess so it depends on your patience level

Right now all of our face to face meetings are on hold due to company for the holidays, and I'll admit to some nervouseness (this is our first foray into the finding a playmate world) But I have found that chatting online, be it emails or chat, really does help ease the comfort level a bit. I haven't IM'd in nearly a decade, but recently reopened my yahoo chat to talk to a couple we met here, and I've found that's very useful.

I don't think there is a normal time. There are people I've met after one email and then there are people I won't ever meet.

It all depends on a variation of things. First and foremost, are they going to make an effort to come to me? Is it going to work within my life schedule? How badly do they want to meet me and visa versa? What is the purpose of the meet?

You see, I don't put a huge amount of importance in just meeting someone. I think too many people get too wound up about it. If it is someone I think might have some potential for a real life "something", then sooner rather than later. I am also not going to consider them serious until I spend time with them. So, that being said, there are probably others that I am also communicating with that have about as equal a chance at being "something" more. If they want to stand out and have a better chance, they'd better get their ass to Iowa pronto.

you can chat online, email and even talk on the phone but, you dont really know a person until you meet in person

i have met within 5 minutes (we lived 5 blocks away) to 9 months (he lived in Texas). i recently flew to meet the ResidentSadist, we had been talking on the phone for a lil over 6 months. did we break all the rules?...probably, he picked me up at the airport and took me to his home. i did make 2 phone calls to friends letting them know that i was in good hands prior to hearing the snap of the whip and hearing the clink of the lock on his cage.
oh yeah ...he fed me before we got to his home. what a lovely meal.

I've been talking with someone for 8 yrs. Started before I was divorced and have been in contact ever since. We chat practically every day either via phone or emails. There are plans in the works for a weekend together either March or April of 09. Not sure why it's taken so long.
