LumusandtheLady -> Movies you were "made" to watch..... (11/25/2008 7:52:20 AM)

Ok, we've all had it happen to us at one time or another. Someone just absolutely insisted that we had to see "such and such" a movie whether we wanted to or not. Some of us may have been ordered to watch it, some may have watched out of courtesy, or out of love. Maybe even just to shut the person up. Some of us may have been tied up and forced to watch it. [:D]

What movie(s) were you forced to watch and did you find yourself liking or disliking it? For example, when I moved out to Lumus, he had a stack of movies he wanted us to watch that I hadn't seen and some were great, some sucked and some were average. Then there was this weekend and the very last movie that I had been putting off for 6 months. I had been dreading (really dreading) watching "UHF" with Weird Al Yankovich. Yet to my surprise (read that as shock), I found myself really enjoying it, cheesy and silly as it was. It will never win any awards but it was funny, campy and the music just gets in the brain. There were some truly hilarious scenes ("Not many people know this, but the turtle is nature's suction cup.") and great actors.

So what were you forced to watch? And did you end up liking it?

My friend Justin used to stay at my house when I was still in high school like Every other day.  He practically lived with me.  Well, every weekend, We would down a half gallon of cheap vodka, and he would lay on the couch, have me sit beside him, and he would wrap his legs and arms around me and make me watch Freddy Got Fingered.  He litterally MADE me watch it... He held me down til it was over. If I started to fall asleep, he would squeeze me and wake me up.

Ok, So yeah.  I always told him I hated that movie When it really wasn't that bad.. Just because I knew he would "Make me" watch it if I kept saying that.  I really just wanted him to hold me down..... I was in love with him.... lol

In school we had to watch House of seven Gables and then do a report on it. It was hard staying awake thru that junk. How in the world can you make a movie with out kung fu in it.

The only time I can remember being "forced" to watch a movie was at a New Year's Eve party a bazillion years ago. I got soooooooo stoned I could not get off the sofa and someone watched The Shining ( I hate horror flicks) and the other was some bizare pirate porn thing I couldn't even focus on. Otherwise I just get up and leave the room to do something else if I don't want to watch it.

My mother "made" me watch Antwon Fisher when i was about 11 months pregnant. i told her that the last few weeks my emotions had been running amock and i think she just wanted to torture me...(why does everyone in my life feel the need to do that?)

She paid the ultimate price, however...with about 30 minutes left of the movie, i was crying so hard...not the polite sniffle you might hear from folks in the theater, but full on crying...with snot and moans and wailing...i literally had to waddle out and sit in the lobby. (the bathrooms were simply too gross to spend time in)

At the end, she came out to collect me and found me still actively crying...to this day, i cant even imagine watching that movie again. Probably a great one, but i was so traumatised that i just cant do it.

My late girlfriend insisted that, in order to understand her early on in the relationship, I had to go watch Boomerang with her. Apparently I presented myself as someone she thought needed a little bit of humbling.

While I did actually enjoy the movie as I watched it -- though I lead her to believe that it was pure torture for me for a bit afterwards -- I did not see any resemblance between Eddie Murphy's character and myself.

A friend & I used to go to movies on a regular basis.  We would take turns picking which one to see.  The only rule was NO SCARY MOVIES!!  Because I hated scary movies.  Finally, she browbeat me into going with her to see Fatal Attraction.  I think I may have made her sorry that she did that, since I kept grabbing her & screaming things out loud in the theater, like:  "NO! NO! NOT THE BUNNY!!!!"  But I really did like the movie & ended up loving watching scary movies & horror flicks after that.

Bunch of friends and I went out one night...we were going to go see some movie whose title escapes me right now....but anyway, for reasons which also escape me, we ended up going to see "Jerry Mcguire".....which I had wanted to see, but wasn't in the mood for at the time....I have to be in the mood for chick flicks, I do believe I actually took a nap during the movie.  It was an ok movie, I guess.

The only movie I have been forced to watch was the 2nd Pokemon movie. I have no idea what it was called, but it was the absolute stupidest movie I have ever watched, and that is saying a lot! Never, ever again.

myotherself -> RE: Movies you were "made" to watch..... (11/25/2008 12:56:42 PM)

I was nagged and nagged by an American friend of mine to see Napoleon Dynamite.  He knew I enjoyed weird, off the wall kinds of movies.  So I bought the DVD...and what a pile of shite!

That's an hour and a half of my life I can't have back..[:(]

stella41b -> RE: Movies you were "made" to watch..... (11/25/2008 2:26:33 PM)

I have seen the Disney classic 'The Aristocats' about 45 times, James Bond's 'Goldfinger' a similar number, 'Herbie does something somewhere', 'Bedknobs and broomsticks', 'Mary Poppins', 'Oliver' all a similar number of times and other films too, mainly because my parents were working in a cinema together at the time.

Maybe that's why I'm like I am today. Who knows?

Edited for typos.

I loved that movie!  Especially when Jenna Elfman was dancing around the hut with her big long legs, dressed in "tribal", um, clothes, lol.

[sm=rofl.gif]LaT,
i can so relate! This happened to me a couple of summers ago only it wasn't a movie - it was a video game. And i was playing it, or supposed to be!LOL! i kept forgeting it was a game, thought it was a movie and repeatedly asked my friend why we were watching the same movie over and over again!

As to real movies...my offspring insisted i watch Napolian Dynomite...surprisingly, i was amused by it [:D]

SageFemmexx -> RE: Movies you were "made" to watch..... (11/25/2008 3:48:38 PM)

lol, when I was substitute teaching I would be stuck playing/watching the same damn boring movie for every period the kids came in. I detest comedy and cartoons so it was a form of torture to be paid to stay in the movie with Disney flicks and other wretched kid stuff the teachers thought the kids would sit through. Bleck--give me a decent monster anytime rather than a rat chef cooking in France. I started refusing to play the movies from the beginning and would start them somewhere towards the end to ward off the monotony.

Sage.
