When I was first getting to know Master, He insisted I watch one of His favorite movies- "Bachelor Party." It had maybe one or two funny lines, the rest was pure 80's dreck.

(He's sitting beside me as I write this, saying, "Oh, NO, No No!! It's a classic!"

I worship and respect Him as my Master, but sometimes our cinematic tastes differ [:D]. Bring on the Gene Kelly musicals, let Him watch "Saw III")

The English Patient
We ALL hated it. It was painful.  About f 5 of us took turns picking the movie of the week and we all went to theater.  My poor girl picked that movie and has apologized for in hundreds of times since.

I know! I like independent films. Little films with a great cast. Everytime I mention a movie I want to see he says well it looks good but You dont need a big screen for it. So It always big, blockbuster movies like James Bond and Ironman and Hellboy or Handcock. I say lets go see The boy in the striped pajamas or In the Company of Bees and its we can wait. *Whines and Stamps foot* I have been forced to watch Hellboy!

Oooh ooh I wanna watch with Hejira. We can watch Bing Crosby too! I love a good Doris Day and Rock Hudson flick too!

fast reply

i broke my leg about 4 years ago. One week i went up to stay with my Master at His house. He sweetly helped me into a chair, made me comfy , pillows, blankets, etc.and then proceeded to make me watch "Smokey and the Bandit". He loves the movie, kept looking over to see if i was laughing and i felt so bad telling Him that i hated it.

MarksFantasyGirl -> RE: Movies you were "made" to watch..... (11/25/2008 6:21:17 PM)

I don't have to worry about this.  Sweets and I have a lot in common when it comes to movies and music.  We pretty much like all the same things in this department.

My ex on the other hand..... BLACH!!!  I was forced to watch 28 days later, and Cabin Fever... GOD! they were dumb!  I hated them soooo bad...

The first "date" we ever went on, he wanted to see the Punisher soooooo bad... And I wasn't really up for it.  I thought it would be dumb (The newer one by the way. lol) and I wasn't looking forward to it at all.  But I wanted to make him happy, so I went... OMG! I loved it!  It was a very good movie!

Roselaure -> RE: Movies you were "made" to watch..... (11/25/2008 6:24:40 PM)

Many years ago i was hanging out one night with some friends when i made the mistake of commenting that I had never seen "Close Encounters of the Third Kind".  Someone immediately whipped o ut the tape and nothing would do but for me to watch it.  Awful.

dreamofthemoon -> RE: Movies you were "made" to watch..... (11/25/2008 8:22:02 PM)

i haven't been "made" to watch a movie recently ([sm=duck.gif]), but in college a group of friends sat me down to watch some anime.  *shudder*  I believe it was Magic Knight Rayearth or Ah! My Goddess or some other such horrible thing.  Nope, not gonna happen ever again.  Though i might be bribed with say... "Spirited Away", or "BloodPlus", perhaps.

Vendaval -> RE: Movies you were "made" to watch..... (11/25/2008 8:39:03 PM)

One of my friends is a big John Waters fan and tried to have me watch Pink Flamingos in the middle of the day while sober.  Not a chance!

Another time I fell alseep in the theatre while subjected to Schultze Gets the Blues.

Oooooo, boy, so glad to hear someone else in the exact same situation as me, hejira! I love and adore Lumus but our tastes in movies sometimes differ. (Radically.) I'm just thankful that I've learned to appreciate some of His favourite movies and occasionally He will sit through one of mine.

One of the other movies I was "forced" to watch was "Naked Lunch". I'm scarred for life...... (One of the most bizarre movies I have ever seen in my entire life!)

Lunalay -> RE: Movies you were "made" to watch..... (11/26/2008 6:48:04 AM)

Okay, not exactly "forced" to watch it, but it was insisted upon.
And by, "insisted upon," I mean, I was told to get out of bed and watch the movie on pain of death.

Gamers and Gamers II.

Oh my word. HIL-ARIOUS.

Loved it.

I was just reminded of a weekend long New Years party at the old "the farm" (think huge 6 bedroom old farmhouse on a hill in the middle of no-where) where my brother used to live. The guys decided to do a "Rocky Fest" .........thank god for horses to ride. My sister-in-law and I only came in to check on the food, eat a little, have a magarita or two, then head back outside. Those that didn't like Rocky or horses were either in the other room playing video games with the short people, playing cards or napping.

GreedyTop -> RE: Movies you were "made" to watch..... (11/26/2008 8:17:26 AM)

I was made to watch "Swimming with Sharks"

all I can say is...WATCH THIS MOVIE!!

(Kevin Spacey..*droool*)

KyttynTheMynx -> RE: Movies you were "made" to watch..... (11/26/2008 8:29:13 AM)

In school we were forced to watch Mary Poppins, Grease, Saving Private Ryan, The Elephant Man, Mr Smith Goes To Washington, Citizen Kane, Dancing at Lughnasa, and Its a Wonderful Life during theatre class.  I saw all of those just in the first semester of freshman year, minus the Lughnasa movie.

Master forced me to watch Teeth with him one night.  -rolls eyes-  That movie stinks on ice.

MadameMarque -> RE: Movies you were "made" to watch..... (11/27/2008 2:33:33 AM)

A friend of mine once told me how he and his regular video buddies watched this one movie about salesmen, and how long and boooring and miserably unentertaining they found it.  It took me a while to realize he was talking about Glengary, Glen Ross.
Thereafter, if they fussed too much over what to watch, he'd just tell them, "Now everybody stop it, or I'm gonna put on The Salesman Movie!", which threat apparently silenced all dissent.  They called it The Salesman Movie.

MadameMarque -> RE: Movies you were "made" to watch..... (11/27/2008 4:25:07 AM)

For myself, I have a sore spot about friends wanting me to watch a movie that I don't want to watch, for the very reason that they would want me to do that.  I feel like it indicates zero concern for whether or not I enjoy that time together, too.  Watch with me, one of the zillion movies we would both be willing to watch, and watch the other ones when I'm not around.

At bigger group gatherings such as parties, though, it's sometimes inescapable - if they're playing something you don't like, you either stay or go.

I despair at the popularity, among my otherwise bloodthirsty friends, of "family" movies featuring talking animals.  Conversely, for movies with grisly, nonconsentual violence, such as torture, or movies that are cynical and depressing in tone, I tell friends I have to really be in the mood, or else it's just too awful for me.  Maybe I'm just more affected by them than a lot of people?

For somethings, I will never be in the mood.  For example, after watching Papillion with a date, I can realistically say that I will never be in the mood to watch a movie that features for much of its length, prisoners trying to survive in an especially hellish prison.  Also, war movies and ones centered around horrible illness - almost universally, no no no.

Depressing includes melodramas usually mis-engendered as "chick flicks" - what ever happened to, 'girls just want to have fun'?

But there are various movies I consented to watch only because friends were so excited about them, which introduced me to movies or genres I wouldn't have otherwise seen.  A friend had been wanting to watch Ichi the Killer together, and finally one night I said I was up for it.  Now that director, Takeshi Miike, and the lead actor, Tadanobu Asano, are favourites.  The first Hellraiser film I only watched to indulge a friend, and though I'll probably never watch it again, I thought it very artful.  I enjoyed Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the movie, which I suspected was going to be awful.  And there are others I've been introduced to, by agreeing to see them with friends.

The Sound of Music - UGH!

...and closely followed by...

Forrest Gump - double UGH! (Has Tom Hanks ever been in a good movie?)

I wasn't really "forced" to watch "Aliens," but got outvoted.  Several years ago, a group of about eight of use went out to dinner and voted on what movie we wanted to see afterward.  I was the only one who did not want to see "Aliens," but went along so as not to be a spoil-sport .  No, I truly did not end up liking it at all.  When a gross scene came on the screen (which was frequently), I turned my head and looked at the wall.  So I essentially paid the price of a movie ticket to spend a large portion of the time looking at the wall, LOL.
