i dont get punished because i try really hard not to screw up. oh, i still screw up!

but if i take responsibility for my actions, and try harder not to make the same mistakes again, i am forgiven.

i occasionally need pain. and if i ask for it, and remind him when he forgets *laughs* then he accomadates me. i get my pain, he gets the fun of inflicting it, its all good. now, he DOES tell me i'm a "naughty girl" all the time....but we know that's a term of endearment, and not a actual reference to my behavior.

This is my way of thinking too. Not all are submissives/slaves and many are purely into the role-play side of things.
When I was a pro Mistress I would get many men coming to me for punishment. I obviously wasn't angry with them but I had to pretend to be! and they went home happy. Thats just there thing.

Apart from the role play component mentioned by others, punishment can be a simple part of the D/s dynamic, as in "punishment" versus "reward". Within that dynamic, it doesn't have to be painful or unpleasant, it can be as simple as "you're doing chores for a week" or forced orgasms. One of my favourites is that the sub gets to do heavy physical work outside, regardless of the weather, like working on the woodpile, moving logs she can barely lift, or doing vehicle maintenance, stuff like that.
