hi Eeveryone

i have a labia piercing that's been there about 3 years.  this morning, i, well, rubbed it and it popped out.  i lost the ball thing that holds the ring on so i have to buy a new one to replace the old ring.

my question is, does anyone know how long it can be without a ring in it before the hole closes?  i think i heard the genital piercings close extremely quickly, which means i may already be too late.  but if it will take a day or 2 or 3, i can see if my roomie will put a new ring in.

thanks for any help.

Ears "heal" in a few days, don't they?
I'd expect lovely labia to not last a week without filling them with the post.

Depends on the person and where. My earlobes go weeks and weeks without earrings. The piercings I had in the cartilage seemed to heal within hours.

As for the OP, I feel your pain though I don't have a labia piercing myself. I've found that, in a pinch, an ear stud or other "standard" earring that closes will work in other holes. I also use a pencil eraser, pulled off, and pushed onto/into the metal will tide me over for a little while.

pompeii,

I will assume you aren't pierced because of that comment.

justgemmie,

The Labia heals quickly I am sure you remember from when you originally got it pierced the piercing should have healed completely in a matter of 8 or 9 days. depending on how clean you are and how often you wach yourself and how good your diet is.

Most Piercings will remain open for a few weeks (like 2 to 3 and some even longer) the Labia as well as other Porous Flesh Piercings like the Hood and the Penis heal much quicker, like in a week. SO get a new one quickly

Also DON'T JUST BUY A NEW BALL. Most of the time the brand of ball uses a different threading process for horseshoes, I used to just replace the balls until I was loosing the ball every other week. I have learned that I just need to buy a new ring when they start going cause there is usually something wrong with the ring itself maybe the threading is damaged or maybe it got stretched out and isn't holding the way it used too.

no matter what you need to just get it taken care of quickly and just get new jewerly.

***Now before people come back with "I can leave mine out for 6 monts and put one back in just fine. Yes I know I am like that too I can take my piercing out for WEEKS at a time and they go right back in some are a little tight and some feel like I have to pucj the piercing back through some membrane or skin but they rarely close up completely. The point is to give a time line that applies to MOST people not just a few***

I think it depends very much on your body, but how about until you get new piercing jewelry you simply use an earring to keep it open (a small hoop or a stud might be ok)? As long as the earring is not a material you are allergic to, you could simply keep it in for a bit each day until you got new jewelry.

Just bend the ring closed (in place) until you find a replacement ball.

My ears where pierced when I was 3 days old ..so close to 50  years now.. there were periods I would go a couple years without putting earrings in...even now I only put earrings in 2 to 5 days a month.... if the earrings were worn continuously for a long period of time the hole itself may not necessarily close up and still be healed

it depends on the place on the body. my ears have been pierced since i was 3 im now 19 i can take them out for a very long long time and they never close up. certain places will heal over a couple of days. i think that it depends on if its just a skin piercing or muscle or cartalige.

My labial piercings went 7 years (after 4 yrs of constant jewelry) without closing. I removed my rings (4 of them) after 9/11 so I wouldnt have to explain to my boss why I set off the metal detectors when we were traveling. When I visited the piercing studio in June of this year, I was prepared for re-piercing. A taper was used to re-open the piercings and I was back in business !

Note: I hate captive bead rings because my nails are long and I can never get those stupid lil balls back on. I switched to circular barbells.

I'm not a medical/diagnostic technician but my take on it is this:
body jewelry = metal (the scientists can split hairs over the materials and make-up)
MRI =  really BIG magnet
potential outcome = ouch?

My Ears Go months, and maybe even a couple of years and i can still put rings in, except the cartiledge, My Eyebrows, I took out one off either side, and was told they would close ( they were growing out) but one day i was bored, and popped a bar back in my eyebrow, little stiff went in though, i removed my nipples, and one closed and one is still open after 2 years without it in, the one that remained open i can still pop one in,everyone is different,
Takes me back to when i had my tongue done, 1st time it was ok, healed nicely, my mother in law didnt like it, i took it out, the second time i nearly died, my tongue swelled so much, and i ended up in hospital, 3rd time i still have it in now 5/6 yrs down line,
Like I say everyone is different as our own bodies are different too, i realised my body, never the same experience with any piercings i had, some bled some didnt etc.

I pierced my ear twice in 1969.  Everything went well and I healed up correctly.  I wore earrings off and on until 1995 when I took them out.  I haven’t worn an earring since 1995 and both holes are were still open 6 months ago when I found my old earrings and tried them on.

The object of a piercing is to let it heal and have scar tissue form.  Nowhere in my medical background and exposure have I heard of healed scar tissue suddenly grafting to itself.  A healed piercing shouldn’t “close”, although the diameter may shrink to fill in the empty space over a long period of time.

Unfortunately when my nipple ring popped out, the hole quickly sealed right up in a couople weeks. I had tried to reinsert the ring and it was a no go. Have to mention that the nipple had a ring in for 6 years and had never been removed until that ball popped off during sleep and the ring worked it's way out! Yet I can leave an earring out for months at a time and have no problem putting an earring back in! Thinking it's time to have them repierced soon.

I buy locally only in an emergency as the mark-up is astronomical. When you have time to think ahead, these are both reliable vendors  www.steelnavel.com      www.painfulpleasures.com

You can also order very nice (and reasonably priced) jewelry tools on those sites - esp the little 'grabby' tool that holds the captive bead !

I've ordered from mspiercing.com and my order took a month to show up. It had been sent from NJ to MD via CA!  They didnt sound particularly motivated to help me when I called them about it so  I leaned on them til they refunded my $$ and then I purchased elsewhere.

getting the mri wont hurt the machine or jewelry by having it in,,i have multiple piercings down south-lol,and have never had to take them out to get the mri's done,,hell when i had the cath's they didnt require me to take them out,it probably gave them something to talk about during the precedure................putting something in place of the lost jewelry will suffice till you get it replaced....its healed and shud be good for at least a day or two, depends on the person,,hell it may stay open for longer, but to be on the safe side i wud plug the hole fast and then get replacement jewelry.......
