A woman in the UK is divorcing her husband, because
she "caught" him cheating on her in "Second Life".

Revealed: The 'other woman' in Second Life divorce... who's now engaged to the web cheat she's never met | Mail Online

If you glance at the story, go to the bottom of the page and look at the real pictures of
the people involved, their situation and their online characters.
I especially like the husband's character " Dave Barmy", he is
a creative bloke.
It appears the husband and wife were unemployed, it is really rather pathetic.
I am thinking they had too much time on their hands!

I am wondering how many would get a divorce because they "caught" their partner

having an online cyber affair?

They are both currently negotiating the selling of their stories to different newspapers.
I'm not sure interest will last until the Sunday editions.

They are also both unemployed!
Do you blame them?
They need the money

Cheating is cheating, at least in my book anyways.  The infidelity points to something seriously wrong in my relationship, and I better get off my ass and figure out what the hell the problem is.  The other party is getting his rocks off on someone else, whether it is online or in real life doesn't matter.  But then, these are the boundaries that are defined in our relationship.  Others have different boundaries in place.

Now, if this were me?  I would sell my story to the highest bidder.  Cuz I am looking for some new shoes.  And my truck wants new side rails.

This shit is just too freaky. OTOH, it's just a 3-D version of CollarMe/B.com/FetLife yada yada. These are some seriously fucked-up people. It's easy to see where American rednecks' roots originate.

And ugly????? In Texas they would say "shot with a shit-pistol." How grotesque.

While I would argue that there's no sex if there's no contact, so it's not technically cheating, I think that something like that would piss me off enough to justifiably leave them. It's the internet people!! It's not real life!!! Ahhh!

Also, the virtual wedding picture next to the real wedding picture made me laugh until I almost peed.

Who ever said lying, cheating and online flirting doesn't pay.. Besides,  looks like they have jobs now....keeping up this charade.

It could also make someone (married or living with) think twice about posting too many 'huggles and nudges' to another when it is a public with feed links enabled. Ya just never know what could be used as evidence these days.

Honest people do NOT act or say anything they wouldn't say and do in front of their spouse.  Online or off.

OMG!!!  I was going to say that the groom in the virtual wedding pic had bigger tits than his bride (c'mon graphic designers - it's not a good look!), but then I saw the real pic...

Truly awesome story, and makes me proud to be a Brit             *sniffles, wipes tear from corner of eye*

It's not about infidelity, were all infidels after all, according to Bin Laden.
It's about pathological jealousy.
I know a guy who was daft enough to stop looking at women when his Wife complained about it, she thought his just looking at another woman was wrong, then it followed the familair pattern of encouraged jealousy, she felt betrayed by his porn collection, criticised his every sexual fanatasy or quirk, declared that he was a sex addict, pervert, maniac etc, and generally squeezed every ounce of life out of him until she was actually threatening to divorce him for wanking in the shower.
This self styled paragon of female virtue is cheating on him, with several women.
Will I tell him? No. If he lets her treat him like that, and is so dim he even tells people about it, he's way past helping.
It helps if you can be objective enough to spot if your partner is barking mad.

Cyber relationships can and do lead to real life relationships...

...and cyber cheating can, and does, lead to real life cheating.

There is also the argument that cheating on someone emotionally and mentally is more violating than just cheating on them physically.

Just cyber sex isn't that big a deal.. It is when it becomes a relationship or has the potential to lead to more that it is problematic.
Note that this man ended up engaged to his cyber-girlfriend.. and that he also met his wife online, before they got married in real life.

Online is a weird thing.  Is watching a porno movie any different from buying a copy of Penthouse?  Is an 'on-line pal' any different from a 'pen pal' out of the personals?

One of my girlfriends was incensed at her husband for 'playing' online.  Neither of us really knew what he was up to, because he covered his tracks so that she couln't see what sites he'd been on.  (Clue Phone Ringing.)

I am sorry to say I poo-poo'ed her anger.  Turned out she was more right than she ever dreamt.

I think if your partner is withdrawing from you for any reason, that is emotional abandonment.  At some point you need to say 'move the hell out, buddy -- the important part of you is already gone.'

Cheating is not new, nor strange.  There are just new ways people *think* they can get away with lying their asses off.

Gheez, I know there are people who play online games who do not fit the typical "loser" stereotype, but from this article you'd never know. What a pair.

lol, some of you people looked at the pictures
MUCH harder than I did!
Let me go back and look a little harder!
This story is funny and yet tragic at the same time.

I think stories like this are more common than we think.
The internet and virtual reality has really expanded the ability
to "cheat"!
I think it is the fact the characters got married that takes the cake.

The difference between their "real life" and "second life" is striking!
Since the wife also has a character, she might consider getting married also.
What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

That those found to be excess to requirements in the real world might find diversion from it is not surprising; whether its booze, drugs, insanity or websites such as this is merely a matter of circumstance and personal preference.

What is truly lamentable is the cause, not the symptoms.

Sure its funny and pathetic but I would rather ask why these two (and millions more like them) are living lives where such unreality appears to be preferable to real life, and the only answer is that their real lives are so dysfunctional that the unreality is indeed preferable.

Unless we resolve the socio-economic circumstances whereby millions find themselves in such and similar situations where life is something to be avoided, suppressed and replaced rather than lived, we can only expect such bizarre occurences to be repeated and to become more exaggerated.

That all this is occurring solely because a growing underclass find themselves disenfranchised in life, that it is financed by the taxpayer, that everyone finds it amusing - is no different to the situation that obtained in former times when sightseers would tour the lunatic asylums to laugh at the gibbering freaks who were also excess to requirements.

I dunno .. how about the ex-wife, who is listed as a 'former waitress' get a job to support herself so that she no longer has to life on benefits?  The husband is listed as being disabled.  I don't find this story amusing in the least - it's just friggin' sad that these 3 people have sat around playing an online game and getting so involved in it.  Get out there and live, people - we only get one shot at this.
