MissSCD -> Can we not unite? (11/10/2008 9:21:53 AM)

I think it is time to let the election go, and start working together in order to bring change.
Being afraid of someone different is not the way to solve problems.
We are in serious economic and social extreme in this country.  It was due to Bush.
Seventy-seven percent of the white population voted for President Elect Obama.
I had to put up with George Bush for eight years.
A lot of people here are bashing someone that is not the President yet because they are terrified of change.  We need positive change.
Let's get off the election.  Damn. The thing is over.

Regards, MissSCD

Yes. And I hope all this pontification and proliferation of posts about it abates at least until January, when we really get to see what will happen. Everything in between, even my "disappointed" thread is nothing but speculation until that time.

So what would you like to talk about ? I could go digging for my "Violin" thread but there isn't much happening on that. Now I see why it takes years to learn how to play one of those things. Other than that, I will say this, there are other things going on in the world. I am waiting for people to bring up these other issues, like they used to.

I am surprised to get no response to my ewaste thread, even from Hunky, who seems to show quite a bit of interest in such things. We shouldn't be preoccupied with all this election crap at this point.

Life goes on.

Never will happen. There are too many valid points of view as well as perceived points of view.

Until we all have the same values, things will not change. And I'd hate to live in a world of one value.

"Positive" being the operative word.  I think anyone with any common sense agrees that we need change.

if you say you do not want to live in a world with one value, then according to your post, you do not want change.

We are a diverse bunch and the chances of all of us having the same single value is not going to happen, ever. Yet..there are things we can almost all  agree on...

I wont unite around Pelosi.

She is a globalist.

I thought she would be good.  So THAT is what we are in for.

That was a very strong and direct statement that that George Bush is the one responsible for todays economic problems.  Could you elaborate on that...other than he is President..but than you must also give him credit for the seven years of prosperity that followed 9/11, hurricane Katrina..and the fact that this country has not been able to get an intelligent energy policy for decades, the environmentalists blocked any drilling and building of grass-root refineries,  and we saw the consumer choking on $4.00/gal gas this summer.

Bush made some terrible errors...but to absolve a Congress with a 10% popularity seems a bit too generous.
As far as letting the election go..I would definitely agree.  However, when the democrat party talks about walking across the aisle they usually means that the republicans have got to make the trip.

I agree! Until everything's the same, nothing will change...wait...my head's brain is confused...if everything's different, nothing changes, but if everything's the same...uh...ah, I'm just gonna horde guns because I'm terrified of black people. Also, because I'm somehow under the impression I can operate multiple guns at once, which is the only logical reason any single person who does not have a militia or private army working for them would need that many guns.

This reads to me as "Please stop freely expressing your opinions and telling us what you really think about Obama (even though it's no different than my attitude toward Bush for the last 8 years) because I don't like them!"

Thank you for another round of thought policing courtesy of yet another Obama Internet protector.

I don't see your post bouncing Wabbit. The opinion is that people are sick of opinions that really don't matter, I think. Of course that is just my opinion.

But I agree in assence that we will know what is happening no earlier than January.

I'm sorry...I don't follow your reasoning.  A world of one value would be a world without change, since change is almost always brought about by making something uncomfortable.

There may be values in common, but there is not one value set.  If that was the case, then there would be one religion, whatever it might be.  Not to mention one kind/fashion of clothing, instead of this parade of fashion we see each season.

Fair enough.

I can understand on election night where everyone wanted to take a break from it all, put down the axes, and just reflect.

But I doubt the Off Topic Discussion is going to become devoid of political wars just because the election is over.

To expect people who sincerely believed that Obama is going to be the downfall of this country to change their minds and become a supporter is unfair to them and to the integrity of their political values.

Why hire a militia when modern microprocessor technology enables the average geek to have a robot army for a fraction of the cost? Get real, man!

These are positives?

"but than you must also give him credit for the seven years of prosperity that followed 9/11, hurricane Katrina"

Indeed, 700 hundred billion dollars later. Don't you see, it was all fake ? We had no real prosperity. The proof of that is before our eyes in the form of current events, if we could only see.

I for one do not want to unite.
The democrats offer me nothing to unite with them about.
same with the republicans, or any third party.
no nonprofit group
I am not a lock step, banner carrying type of person. I do not "unite" with anyone or anything. If it appears I do, then it is for my own expedient needs and not a true belief or symbol of unity.

Guess what?  I cannot stand her.  She is a nutcase and makes me very nervous.
