I can say it doesnt work out very well when your sub is having a sing a long to motown. Its just too dang peppy for a scene!

I find music during a scene too distracting.
And there was one time S. was using a crop on me and he got into this rhythmic pattern.  I made the ‘mistake’ of saying out loud, “has a good beat and easy to dance to” (Bandstand, anyone??)
The beat and the rhythm changed rater drastically!  ~grins~

I think, my favorite song to submit to would have to be "Venus in Furs"  by Velvet underground.  give it a try, you won't be displeased!
"kiss the boot of shiny, shiny leather... shiny leather in the dark..."
great song.

i'll just toss this in here since i don't ever check that other forum either...i love the music that is in the movie From Dusk til Dawn. It is played by Tito and Tarantula and i can really get lost in it while scening/playing.

I don't think he meant it that way. He said  "Polls and Random Stupidity", not "Trolls and Random Stupidity" *grin*

I don't know. I had one sub who wanted to hear the Spice Girls, and would sing along - every session, continuously. Drove me bonkers. And of course the video was weird. I personally like silence, listening to breathing gives me clues as to what I am doing. Most of the time.

I apologize beforehand if this has already been discussed and I just couldn't find it.

Music is very, very important to me and I constantly make mix "tapes" for almost every situation and most of my close friends. I've been thinking about doing one for BDSM (when silence isn't implemented) but the results have been kind of all over the place. Beyond playing what my Dom would want (let's say He ordered me to choose), do you have any recommendations if you ever mix music with your sessions? Do you ever use it to alter the mood or ambiance of the scene(s)? Do you usually go by what would make the Dom feel more powerful or intimdating, or to influence the sub specifically (or both?) For some reason I would LOVE to see someone using Slayer for those purposes...

Also, for all the hilarious responses ("Speed polka, definitely!" "That 'Rawhide' song!") a 'real' one would be aces. :) I would love to make a compilation from the suggestions and offer it to anyone who would be interested.

Jazz a la Cassandra Wilson (You move me/Traveling Miles, Time after Time), Miles Davis (Kind of Blue),

Joy Division (Atmosphere), Bjork (Venus as a Boy - domination/Unravel-submission), The Cure (All cats are Grey) and Type O' Negative (Love you to death), Janet Jackson (Rope Burn/Anything).

There is more, I love music but I'd be here all day rattling off the bands and songs I would love to submit to (if I were to submit *grins*).

No opera. One time, I was with a Dom and he had "Carmen" on. I couldn't help thinking of the Bugs Bunny version, even in the serious moments and I was smiling when I shouldn't have been.

The absolute best music; Hector Berlioz, 5th movement from the Symphonie Fantastique.... It is from the movie "Sleeping with the Enemy." Most eerie and cool at the same time, makes my skin crawl, but makes other things quiver at the same time.

We prefer jazz without vocals. I find vocals too distracting.

I use anything by Joy Division, Depeche Mode, Rammstein and Butt Boy; selected Metallica, Alice in Chains and NIN; Death Cab's "I Will Possess Your Heart" (the long version), R. L. Burnside's "It's Bad You Know" (great for rhythmic caning), Samhain's "Human Pony Girl" and some Danzig works well too.

I was listening to the Torchwood soundtrack last night and was intrigued by how many tracks would make great session music. I think any music with lyrics would be distracting. Would any Domme want to compete with a singer for a sub's attention? Instrumentals, particularly ones which build in intensity, sound ideal -- the music of John Williams or Jerry Goldsmith for example.

This may sound strange, but classical music.

We'd never scened to music before our playdates with our most recent friends, and he chose classical music. Pretty amazing what the percussions and cresendos can translate to in terms of sensations, and also how easy it is to get swept up in the music as you're scening.....absolutely marvelous!
