On references, vouching, vetting, or whatever term is most appropriate, I see it very much the way most have on this thread. If I vouch for someone, it does come with a responsibility. If I'm bringing them to an event, that means I'm putting Myself in the position of saying that guest will not be a liability, until that person can stand on their own reputation. Our little group here does not have the option of a local public dungeon. Some demos we hold at hotel conference rooms. All play parties are held at private homes. I don't know about anybody else, but it matters to Me to bring someone to somebody else's home. I don't do that lightly. I respect the fact that, not only are those persons being gracious enough to invite Me, they are accepting the guest of My choice to accompany Me. That means that I should use some sound judgment in who I bring along. We also have some agreements with other neighboring groups about reciprocation. If you are a member in good standing with your local group, you are welcome at ours. Yes, we are going to check out your references, just like we'd expect you to check one of us out if we visited you. That shouldn't be too much of a problem in My book. Have I emphasized enough that we are talking about someone's home here? Just a side note, for Leadership in particular. If you think that a reference on your behalf from either Merc or Michael wouldn't pull some weight, you'd be sadly mistaken.
