I don't vouch unless I know the person really well and can be assured that My life and My reputation will not suffer.

That's not true, we'd vouch for you! Of course that will likely get you banned from clubs and events coast to coast.

Not at all. I can see the conversation now...

DM: Merc? Do you know this couple?
Merc: Jeff & Carol? Sure. Great folks.. he's kind of square but there's hope for him yet.
*dm gets worried look on his face*
DM: Jeff, do you know MercnBeth?
Jeff: Oh yeah, raving lunatics.
*dm looks vastly relieved*

See, it'll all work out fine *laughs*

And I WILL make a pervert of you yet...

That just sounds wrong....

Well I am another who appreciated the vouching and/or vetting system when I hosted parties at My home! The address was never published, people were only given it if they attended a munch (and were vetted by Me or other longstanding members), if they had a coffee meet with at least 2 longstanding members who agreed they were OK or if they were brought to the party by longstanding members willing to vouch for them. In all cases, the vetting/vouching process was intended to make them aware of what they were coming to, how it was appropriate to behave (party protocols like not interfering etc), and the absolute need for discretion. It worked well. Methods 1 and 2 were the more usual, the main vouching times were when members had kinky friends visiting from other states and countries and knew they would be OK with WIITWD and there wasn't time to arrange a munch or interview. I am more than happy to provide references too or have people seek them about Me. I won't attend clubs open to the general public ... too much risk to career etc!

On references, vouching, vetting, or whatever term is most appropriate, I see it very much the way most have on this thread.  If I vouch for someone, it does come with a responsibility.  If I'm bringing them to an event, that means I'm putting Myself in the position of saying that guest will not be a liability, until that person can stand on their own reputation.

Our little group here does not have the option of a local public dungeon.  Some demos we hold at hotel conference rooms.  All play parties are held at private homes.  I don't know about anybody else, but it matters to Me to bring someone to somebody else's home.  I don't do that lightly.  I respect the fact that, not only are those persons being gracious enough to invite Me, they are accepting the guest of My choice to accompany Me.  That means that I should use some sound judgment in who I bring along.

We also have some agreements with other neighboring groups about reciprocation.  If you are a member in good standing with your local group, you are welcome at ours.  Yes, we are going to check out your references, just like we'd expect you to check one of us out if we visited you.  That shouldn't be too much of a problem in My book.  Have I emphasized enough that we are talking about someone's home here?

Just a side note, for Leadership in particular.  If you think that a reference on your behalf from either Merc or Michael wouldn't pull some weight, you'd be sadly mistaken.

A local membership-only dungeon's announcement recently caused a few wandering thoughts to visit my midnight brain. When you bring a guest to one of their play parties, who is not already a member, you vouch for them so that they can become a member of the dungeon. Cool. Obvious, no? But...what does it mean to vouch for someone?

Why would I ask someone to vouch for another?  Certainly I can form my own view regarding character.  I do value ppls views but I'm smart enuff to figure out who I let into my house.  Sounds like high school to me.
