To be honest, I'm as concerned -- if not more so -- about those who fill the Congressional seats as who sits in the Oval Office. Being President carries a lot of power, but in the end, it's Congress that passes or fails a proposed bill. And due to my Congressmen's passing of the "bailout" bill, which I was against, I'll be voting AGAINST every incumbent in office. So there!

Damn Straight!

As much as an incompetent fuckup Bush has been he hasn’t been acting alone. His approval rating may be in the septic tank but he has managed to still come out ahead of Congress. I would love to wake up on November 5th and learn that every incumbent has been chucked out in favor of an Independent. It is a fantasy I have.

I'll be at my desk, one way or another. I don't think anybody I know is going to jump off a bridge, but, we might need to be patient with a few people if McCain pulls it out of this dive.

I’m not seriously expecting a mass suicide of CM members in the event of a McCain win but I do wonder how some will react. I think you are right about being patient. I have a feeling that, regardless of who wins, Mod 11 is going to be very busy that day. I could be wrong and I hope I am.

But, despite the cynicism of some, I have – after two years on these boards – developed a certain fondness for this weird little community of CM posters (even the one’s that irk the shit out of me sometimes).

See? Some people get emotional over the elections, you get emotional over a collection of collarchat posters... it's all good :-) .

Okay it’s like this:

For the record – I’ve already stated that I am going to vote for McCain because Obama is too far left for me. I have also stated that I am aware that in New York State this makes my vote a wasted vote (but it’s my vote, damn it, and I’m making it). This thread isn’t about who I am voting for or why. It’s the day after the election that I’m concerned about.

At this point I concede that it is probably Obama’s election and if that is the outcome, then on the morning of Wednesday, November the 5th, I’ll shrug my shoulders and then I’ll go to work.

Still, there are twenty days left to the election and McCain may pull off an upset, in which case I will shrug my shoulders and then go to work. It’s some of you I am worried about.

Seriously. I don’t think some of you on these boards could handle the let down. Do I have to be worried that some of you may get suicidal, pop a vein in your head, or go off the deep end in some other manner?

With the possible exception of Sanity, I don’t see the same kind of emotional investment in this election from those on the right (on these boards, not in society in general) as I do those on the left.

So, do I have to worry?

No, don't be silly.

I have the number of the local suicide hotline on speed dial.

I'll be ok if Obama l...... lo............... los..............I'm sorry, I can't bring myself to say it, but you know what I mean.

A friend had an idea for what could be a cool campaign sign: Sarah Palin with her finger on the button. Under her, simply the word "Maverick."

Yeah, that is the mental image quite a few people have had as nightmares whether awake or asleep.

Don't worry about me, Marc. I'd hang around just to say I told you so when it all goes to shit if Obama's elected, and I know that power always swings both ways. With Obama and Pelosi and Reid running the show, in four years we'll be headed for a GOP landslide that would make Jimmy Carter PROUD of the job he did holding Ronald Reagan off.

I'm interested in this election because I love my country, but I'm not worried about myself or my family regardless of what a Democratic trifecta may bring. Like a good boy scout, I'm prepared for another depression, probably better than most.

But... still. It's good to know I'm in your thoughts, Marc. I hope you don't stay up too many nights losing sleep thinking about me.

Lately, the only thing that has been keeping me up at night is the young couple who live above me when they are having sex.

"Ram it! Ram it! Ram it! Ramit Ramit Ramit Raaaaaaaaammmmmmmiiiiiit!"
(apparently, she really likes him to ram it)

I do agree, however, that an Obama victory will lead to a Republican victory four or eight years down the road. The whirly-gig goes on.

Well, I’m always feeling some sort of emotion every moment of the waking day (doesn’t everybody). What I’m wondering about is the level of emotion people are investing into an Obama win and, more importantly, the responses such an investment will provoke in the event of a McCain win. If it seems that I am singling out Obama supporters as emotional cripples or something – I’m not. It’s just that, as I said, Obama supporters seem to have more emotion invested into this election than McCain supporters.

And a whirlygig it is, we'll never have this friggin' thing worked out. The worst possible outcome would be totalitarianism under which we could not emerge, and that is what we must remain eternally vigilant against, both left and right.

Speaking of which, in the event of an Obama victory, I would recommend buying guns and ammo as an investment, because I will bet you that their value would in that event be sure to increase. Especially the more powerful and automatic models, as well as hand guns.

Edited to add; Sorry to hear about your neighbors... I hate apartment living. I love my house... and my private property rights...

It's funny: Perhaps because I'm an Obama supporter, I've had the opposite perception. To me, the anti-Obama crowd seems much more passionate. Several posters honestly do seem to be coming unhinged.

Nah. Despite the inordinate amount of Tim Hortons, and that you have no idea what the hell 34 degrees means on a hot summer day, Canada is actually a pretty cool place. I’m fairly certain that it’s more fun than hanging yourself.

People do see things through the filter of their world view. No doubt about that. In fact, that’s pretty much been the bane of human history.  I always liked the way my grandfather put it - "people don't see far out of their own windows."

My buddy is TX is actually afraid of Obama.

An Obama administration scares the shit out of me. The only upside of all of this is that it's not Hillary.

As an investment, Marc. Guns always go up in value, never down and under Clinton certain models skyrocketed in price because they became more rare, and I can foresee that happening again under a Reid / Pelosi / Obama power triangle.
