ORIGINAL: shewhoserves i been here a few weeks now, and i was wondering how online slavery works, can one truly be a slave without the Human contact? just curious! thank You Here's my take. Individuals, of course, will never fit into any generic sort of statements such as these. There is no definition for the word "slave". So yes, you can be "something" without direct human contact. Being a little more specific let's look at the 3 elements of BDSM. BD: Yup, this carries to some degree over an indirect communication channel. With some fair amount of attenuation, you can do this over the internet or telephone. SM: Nope, not at all. No current communication technology carries the right sort of data... pain impulses, the smell of the sub's sweat, etc. DS: The mental parts of this carry quite well over the internet. The physical parts less well. OK, so the bottom line is that you can explore D/s pretty thoroughly (assuming you can find a non-flake partner to do so with) over the internet. You can only explore BD a bit. You can't really explore SM at all. Also, of important note is that even on the D/s thing, you can only go as far as the trust levels allow and it's really hard to see how I could trust someone I've never met face to face who has an entire life outside of what I know and interact with as much as I trust the woman who's lived with me for 13 years. There's a natural limiting factor there.
