ORIGINAL: shewhoserves i was in a chatroom a lil while ago and a Dom was whipping a sub, now how can that be? she was typing the 'ouch' and all that, hmmm did she actually feel the whip? i cant understand at all! Well.. I try not to be judgemental, because I don't know what goes on with someone's specific situation. I would think that a certain level of roleplay is involved. As far as whether or not she actually felt the whip.. hypnosis, guided imagery, or just a damn good imagination could certainly substitute for the lack of physical proximity. And really, depending on the individual, I don't see why they couldn't exist within the same mental/emotional state. It aggravates me when people assume that "online" isn't real. I beg to differ. Having been "online" for 20years or so, I have made friends, met significant others, held down a full-time job, shopped, paid bills - all online! The fact that I've done these things online doesn't lessen their significance or their impact, it just changes the methods. The fact that I pay my car insurance online doesn't devalue my payment, and it doesn't make it "fake" or a "fantasy payment" - it's just another payment. ;-) I have a friend who moved far out of the area, and we don't see each other anymore. We now keep in touch mostly through emails and phone. This doesn't lessen how I feel about his friendship or change my affection for him, just because he's now "online". Sometimes "online" is a stepping stone to other things, sometimes it just is whatever it is. Granted, when you're talking about some of the things we are talking about here, the water gets a little muddier. Less physical, more mental but it's still the same lifestyle. And no, I don't expect everyone to agree with me. ;-) --cs
