Just today I was talking to a girl at my office and she said that she wasn't going to vote. Neither canadate did it for her and she really felt that not voting was a good choice. I guess kinda like a politcal statement or something.

I think I may play this on my computer tomorrow.

I'm sorry, but that was retarded.  I don't even know who half of those pricks were.  As for encouraging others to vote, I don't give a damn if others do or not.  I'm actually glad a great deal of people I meet choose not to vote.

Leonardo!!

Aneirin -> RE: Don't Vote. (10/3/2008 3:41:30 AM)

Yeah, god idea, don't vote, no one said you had too, it's not law you have to vote, so if no one inspires, don't give them your vote.

Who ever gets in power, it will be the same old crap that is dished out, as it is with our lot, different names and different colours, but in reality the same, power hungry people out for themselves. The people, the voter are being conned into believing they are important. We are important as long as we are needed to enable the power of an individual or party, after that, we are a nuisance.

In order to maintain the freedom and the right to vote we must also have the freedom and the right not to vote.

I would rather have a 30% turn out of aware, intelligent and passionate voters than
90% turn out of the opposite.

Actors are so much better at delivering lines than politickos. I hope the clip's done its job and that it encouraged people to register TO VOTE.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Don't Vote. (10/3/2008 5:53:59 AM)

Too bad it does not mention that you should get educated about the issues before you vote.

It's great when voters make informed decisions, that's true. But a right is a right, and ignoramuses vote all the time: proof is, the president we have today. Hopefully the electorate has learnt from its past mistake and will vote accordingly come November [;)] .

windchymes -> RE: Don't Vote. (10/3/2008 6:30:15 AM)

Eww, thanks for the reminder!  I hadn't registered yet......just downloaded my app and will be dropping it off today.

(For anybody in VA, you have until close of business on Monday!)

kittinSol -> RE: Don't Vote. (10/3/2008 6:34:37 AM)

Go go go!!!

variation30 -> RE: Don't Vote. (10/3/2008 10:59:13 AM)

one cannot make an informed opinion in voting unless they understand this:

" In truth, in the case of individuals their actual voting is not to be taken as proof of consent... On the contrary, it is to be considered that, without his consent having even been asked a man finds himself environed by a government that he cannot resist; a government that forces him to pay money renders service, and foregoes the exercise of many of his natural rights, under peril of weighty punishments. He sees, too, that other men practice this tyranny over him by the use of the ballot. He sees further, that, if he will but use the ballot himself, he has some chance of relieving himself from this tyranny of others, by subjecting them to his own. In short, he finds himself, without his consent, so situated that, if he uses the ballot, he may become a master, if he does not use it, he must become a slave. And he has no other alternative than these two. In self-defense, he attempts the former... Doubtless the most miserable of men, under the most oppressive government in the world, if allowed the ballot would use it, if they could see any chance of meliorating their condition. But it would not, therefore, be a legitimate inference that the government itself, that crushes them, was one which they had voluntarily set up, or even consented."
~Lysander Spooner

I don't vote on principle.

Half the populace would reject that advice as the defunct values of the liberal elite.

Why examine any issue when your faith or your party already told you all you need to know?

And the other half of the populace is mistaken about which half this is.

bipolarber -> RE: Don't Vote. (10/3/2008 11:15:01 AM)

Eva Longoria's tight white shirt convinced me! LOL

Odd how Sarah Silverman's removing of her bra was such a turn off. That girl's public persona just makes me think that going down on her would be like chugging a bottle of dark vinegar.

Oh, and FDD, if you don't want to vote, or vote for some "no-chance" third party... please feel free to do so. It'll just make my vote count all the more... [:D]

kdsub -> RE: Don't Vote. (10/3/2008 11:20:32 AM)

It is a shame that a well intentioned piece to get people to vote has to have a left wing bent...It would have had so much more impact if it were balanced.

That said even it it were balanced the conservative right would disapprove of it. They know that most unregistered votes would vote Democratic...because they would be the poor and disenfranchised among us...Disillusioned by Republican policy.

To bad they don't take the unnecessary fucks and damns out and put it on public TV where the very people they are trying to reach would be more likely to see it.

You're correct, but I still find that incredible. They want to play the game, but they want to play it on their own.

kdsub -> RE: Don't Vote. (10/3/2008 12:18:25 PM)

I do know what you mean kittinSol...four years ago the Republican party had a huge registration program  focused on the rural bible belt areas of Missouri.

Then they criticized a Democratic push to register inter city African Americans...they said there was too large a chance of voter fraud.

It's a tricky one.....

By and large, you will pretty much get the same government regardless of choice........was there really any significant difference between Clinton's regime and the Bush equivalent? Ultimately, in the event they're serving up the same lot, with perhaps a slight difference in taxation and public spending, there is no enfranchisement.

On the other hand, abstaining is akin to forgoing a stake in the nation.

I think you have to ask yourself this: do you really know what is driving human nature and government policy ? Assuming the answer is no, then you have to accept that people are trapped by their failings and are miles away from the evolutionary point of democracy. Where special interest groups exist with regard to information and knowledge, there is no democracy.

Casie -> RE: Don't Vote. (10/3/2008 1:00:17 PM)

There are over 200 candidates running for president surely there has to be someone you agree with.
