Oh, I have to register to vote? These goddamn celebrities are telling me I have to register before I can vote! What, do I have to be all "informed on the issues" and shit, too?
Hey, anyone else take social studies in school? Anyone else get text books that said that the popular vote means nothing when you vote for the president? That the electoral vote, the vote of people who are already in the government, is what actually counts and your vote is really nothing more than a kind suggestion? Well, even though my vote is rendered pretty pointless both by it being drowning out by the masses and holding no real power, I'm gonna vote anyway! For the polar bears! Fuck every other animal affected by global warming! Polar bears are better than us ALL!

-Tabris, will get a laptop so he can vote while pooping (Yeah, that doesn't cheapen the electoral process at all, does it?)

Of course there is a reason for the college system...it is to protect small states with small populations... The states numbers of electorates are based on the senators and the number of representatives.  This means there are times when a combination of many small states and a few large ones will mean a president can be elected without the popular vote. BUT this system has helped to keep our vast country together. Otherwise it stops the many metropolitan cities with concentrated populations  from always dominating an election...alienating  many of the mid and Midwestern states with small populations but vast areas of land.

And just remember with all the faults one vote can mean everything... remember Florida. If more people had registered and voted there would have been no need for the Supreme Court to decide who was President.

I remember when I first turned 18 and was so excited to vote.
I felt honored to vote and voting is a privilege.
I have voted in every major election, and most minor elections since
the age of 18.

I have always felt, if you don't give a damn about politics and you don't give
a damn about voting, then you really have no say in what happens in our country, and really  have zero right to bitch or complain about the policies that govern our society.
I love seeing the celebrities that made this video.
Rock the damn vote. [sm=applause.gif]

He cant vote this electon, goddamit.

I saw his politics under George (his'n not mine, and was in no wise satisfied with that clown, neither) and want no second helping.
LOL.

There are over 200 candidates running for president surely there has to be someone you agree with.

Can any one of them dissemble a radio and turn into a rocket that can fly me to the moon? If not, same old.....

On a less interesting note, your man of change has been over here campaigning for the ex-pat vote.....apparently there are a quarter of a million Americans over here......which came as a big surprise to me.......while we have half of Spain, three quarters of Ireland, much of France, a viking fleet of Aussies and Kiwis and far too many South Africans for the general well-being of the nation, it's unusual to here an American voice.....they must all be living in one of those embassies you build that are usually the size of\a small African nation.

Anyway, I think he's misjudging the English propensity to find humour in everything...and people will find a way to totally fuck it up for him.....there are already plans afoot for millions of English to turn up at the voting booth in cowboy hats talking of moider and boigers while proceeding to place a firm cross in the Reagan box. It's no joke......one year, an anonymous, dead man with absolutely no claim to a personality or a sporting gift, won our Sports Personality of the Year ran by the BBC, after millions of people got their heads together and decided the contest was fair game for a spot of piss taking....and it's a land where hundreds of thousands of people claim their religion to be Jedi when the pollsters are aiming to understand the spirit of the nation. Expect to see Reagan as a late runner coming up on the outside at the forthcoming election.

corysub -> RE: Don't Vote. (10/4/2008 1:29:37 AM)

Dont vote?  This is not a movie you chose to see or not see!  Voting IS the core of democracy...While you are advising NOT to vote, and some here have said it' their RIGHT not to vote, vans are being used to bus people to "register and vote" in Ohio by people seeking power who understand the importance of voting.   You are playing right into the hands of people would want everyone like you NOT to vote..or rather, EVERYONE not to vote so that they might sculpt a form of government they think, they believe, is good for the great unwashed!  Let us make it official and anoint Obama King, and just do away with all the frivolities of democracy.  Damn, actually, I think I agree with you...most people responding here should not vote, in my opinon. Your right stef...DON'T VOTE!!

Your loss, Ron.....seeing as I'm offering a radical proposal. The least impressive orator since George Bush does not deserve to lose this election, nor does a man heavily invested in cheap soundbites and slogans. It follows thus, a McCain/Obama jont stewardship is a winning combination to warm any man's heart....and one I throw my weight firmly behind.

I don't know why that surprises you.  I have met quite a few British ex-pats living here, and I live out in the middle of fucking nowhere.  When I was 19, I worked at a Lowe's (large hardware store chain).  The sole guy in the repair department was British.  It was none of my business, so I never asked him what the hell he was doing in Bumblefuck, Arkansas working in a hardware store.  He was single and a quiet fellow, so the going gossip was that he was on the lam from the law.

Nothing unusual there, slaveboy....that's us in a nutshell.

We don't even begin to broach the subject of sex.....and we prefer the company of rats over humans......how we manage to reproduce is one of the great mysteries of the Western world.

blacksword404 -> RE: Don't Vote. (10/4/2008 2:07:40 AM)

Out of a cave pops a democratic head and attacke the people. Then Out pops a republican head and bites and strike out at the democratic head. The people cheer the republican head for saving them. The People talk of the two beast doing battle. But in reality it was simply the two heads of a hydra. Long ago democrats were called republicans and republicans were called democrats. They can always agree to vote themselves a raise every year. Every year.

I think that's common in all Anglo-Saxon culture.  I was raised in a non-practicing Methodist, Anglo-Saxon family.  I never had the "birds and bees" discussion with my parents, and it makes me uncomfortable to this day to watch a film with any degree of sexuality with my mother or other female relatives.  We didn't hug or show affection for one another.  But alcohol consumption is a must for any occasion.  I don't consider it a healthy way of living, but it is what it is.

I can relate to some of that, slaveboy. My family are methodists, too. Yet English Protestantism is quintessentially English. It's short on dogma, and long on "just keep your nose clean and it should pan out fine". In actual fact, we're sexually liberal over here.......I mean, Dogging is just catching on in other parts of the world, but in England we've been turning up in car parks and fucking strangers since the invention of cars. When one of our politicians is caught in some brothel or dungeon, it's only to be expected. With the English, it's more a case of 'a time and a place' and we're obsessed with privacy. I agree that sex and family do not mix.......but that doesn't equate to sexual repression....as said, it's more a case of 'a time and a place', privacy and respect for your family. Everything has its order; including sex. To add, my family are very close and very affectionate...and my Mother doesn't touch alcohol, nor do my Grandparents......"Mother's ruin" is the phrase over here, and my family adhere to that. Furthermore, Methodism, English style, was actually formed in part as a solution to the alcoholism of the 18th century; the idea was that inner salvation lies in a pious, controlled lifestyle rather than the waste and spiral of self-destruction that was alcohol.

i didn't want to bring this up before, but...it's funny that, when i publically mentioned i wasn't voting...that was a very bad thing...but, when someone else creates a whole forum about it...it turns into an aswesome idea...go figure

You should have gone with your first instinct, it might have prevented you from looking like a fool.  Try watching the video and perhaps you'll get the point.

Exactly! I am so sick of people spouting off about a candidate when it is obvious they haven't a clue.

Yeah, god idea, don't vote, no one said you had too, it's not law you have to vote, so if no one inspires, don't give them your vote.

Who ever gets in power, it will be the same old crap that is dished out, as it is with our lot, different names and different colours, but in reality the same, power hungry people out for themselves. The people, the voter are being conned into believing they are important. We are important as long as we are needed to enable the power of an individual or party, after that, we are a nuisance.

Bravo, bravo, bravo!

The best case for the sad state of poltics in the US was just made.
