had to share this!

this concerns an incident not far from me a few weeks back. A guy driving a 4x4 thought it would be a good idea to drive his uninsured vehicle whilst 2x over the alcohol limit. He then crashed it into some small shop units, taking out a row of about three completely and damaging another two. He then fled the scene but was caught later due to CCTV footage. The town where it happened then suffered three weeks of traffic problems, since the street where the shops were was a major thoroughfare to/from town that had to be closed whilst repairs were made.

So,
driving uninsured
driving drunk
leaving the scene of an accident
criminal damage in the thousands
economic damage to an entire town and populace in the tens of thousands

Can anyone guess what the sentence was that this guy got? Go on - tell me what you think he deserved?

E

Well, I'm against capital punishment, so I'd say he deserved something short of that. But not much short. I'm guessing the magistrate saw things in less harsh terms than I?

LadyE - your tone of indignation makes me think that reckless arsehole got a thousand quid in fines and the temporary withdrawal of his driving licence. Oh, and two weeks community service.

I just know it's less than that.

A year or two of probation and his license revoked?

That's my guess, for what he deserved, at least a few years in prison or more!

what KS said....

personally, I'd revoke his license for life, prevent him from owning a vehicle, impose like sentencing to anyone that allowed him to use a vehicle, and random drug/alcohol testing for life.

If you heard he was a stolid upper middle-class wanker, what woud you come up with, if you were editor of The Sun?

i think jail time, total restitution and a revoked license for any DUI.

But lemme guess...the judge wouldn't toss his ass in jail cause this man has a family to support and didn't revoke his license as that would lead to the inability to get to work, and having him pay restitution would be depriving his family as well. Probably probation and perhaps a class or two on safe driving?

12 month driving ban and some community service. That'll teach him! Cant see anyone taking risks over drink driving and having no insurance again with that sort of punishment awaiting! Makes one wonder why he bothered fleeing the scene.

Makes one wonder what one has to do to warrant a serious penalty these days - which reminds me of the two guys who;
Kidnapped two underage girls
Raped them
Assaulted them (beating but also electric shocks and scalding water)
Prostituted them
Made threats to kill them and their families
....... and got six years each. Reduced to three for "good behaviour" and likely reduced by another year as they'd been on remand awaiting trial.

Just to add - a 12 month driving ban is likely going to be
a) observed
b) not observed
By someone who doesnt think he needs insurance to drive around and who thinks its OK to drive whilst drunk

Answers on a postcard please to

sad. and we pay our insurance premiums...why?

As to the second part of your post...i cannot comment without going into a TOS violating rant about what should happen to anyone that hurts a child.

It's at the discretion of the judge, when there's a range of penalties. What did the judge say anyway?
