I first saw him in Exodus  - and fell in love. His role in Butch Cassidy confirmed it - and his raspberry and walnut vinagrette dressing is the bomb!  The fact that he donated $127 million to charity is definitely a good character indicator.

I have a friend who's daughter was in school in NY- was in a bar on Manhattan talking to a nice older gentleman until his wife came by and they left - the bar tender told her he was Paul Newman. She didn't know - and he was as nice and polite as you could wish.   Says a lot about someone that they didn't need to toot their horn, or get offended when he wasn't instantly recognised.

Exodus ....one of the all time classics...and a true star turn for Newman!!!

My favorite Paul Newman movie was BUTCH CASSIDY & THE SUNDANCE KID. (Male Romanticism at its best...)

Other movies by him I really liked: THE STING, THE VERDICT, NOBODY'S FOOL, COOL HAND LUKE, and THE HUSTLER.

Paul Newman was truly a great individual.  He was not wrapped up in his own imoprtance like the so called stars of today.  He was down to earth, generous and truly a gifted man.

The Hustler.....an alltime favorite...Gleason and George C.Scott were fantastic...

I was deeply saddened to hear of his death today. I had met him at the racetrack as well and he was a true gentleman, sportsman and all around good guy.

RIP (Race In Peace) [:(]

Actually, it was $250 million...[image]http://www.collarchat.com/micons/m21.gif[/image]  maybe it was the philanthropist in him that made him so hot.

Paul Newman was a true gentleman and understood what it meant to live for yourself while also living for others.
He will be greatly missed by all he came in contact with.

I remember the first time I saw him walking into a local coffee shop. The only way I knew it was him was because of those amazing blue eyes. He saw me looking and on his way out gave me a silly smirk and a wink. I had to go home and call my Mom to say I was winked at by Cool Hand Luke!

He was a gentleman until the end....A local radio host in Philly was relating how Paul Newman appeared before a local charity fundraiser for kids a black tie affair.  Newman showed up with a sport jacket and tie....He said, "guys's I'm 80 years old, at 80 years old you can burn your tux".....I have not heard one nasty word by anyone about this wonderful humanitarian.  He did so much quietly, giving over $75 million to charities.  So many lives benefitted from his generosity. As so many others have said, he will be missed.

Growing up in Indianapolis in about 1968 or 69 I was all of 9 or 10years old, we went out to the Speedway and sat in the crowd as "extras" for a movie named winning...Mr. Newman was one of the stars and I remember him coming to the fence during breaks and speaking to us all. Later as he became involved in Newman Hass racing I would see him in the pits and garage area of the Indy racetrack in May for the 500 and he always found time to speak to folks, sign autographs and just generally be a nice guy. One of the finest actors of all time and always made time for others. I have heard of many people running into him here in Atlanta where he had a house in the Roswell area and never anything but nice to all that met him. In this day and age of "media stars" he was a Movie Star,a humanitarian and above all a real person.

Rest In Peace, Paul. He was one of the "greats"..a great actor..a great human being.

This sums up how I feel about him, and I want to add he seemed to be a wonderful
husband and father, he is indeed a class act.
R.I.P. Paul

Un homme magnifique.

MsRobinSanders -> RE: Paul Newman dies at 83 (9/27/2008 10:14:18 PM)

Paul was a classically handsome...speaking Greco-Roman sculpture of ideals of male beauty kind of way...for some..like me.
I think of Paul Newman and the thought is sunny,tanned,classy,beer-drinking "damn good guy" car-racing
sexy man.
I agree...at least we have his movies. I think Im going to rent some favorite videos for a retrospective of Paul's work.

Good job,Paul.
Thanks
Good journey...

I am sorry to hear that.  He gave Danika Kirkpatrick her first chance as an Indy Driver.
I love his salad dressing.

I was away for the weekend when I heard about this.  Very sad indeed.  I absolutely agree with the words above.
