Hey,

I know folks are talking doom and gloom about the economy - and let's face it.  It's bad.

But unless you have over $100,000 squirreled away in various accounts and investments, then you're probably going to be more or less alright so long as you are still working.

So what do we do in the face of a recession?  Refuse to participate.

Go out and have a good time with good people ANYWAY.

Your neighborhood bar is probably cheap if it is not one of those chain-places.  A rented movie is still cheap.  Having a few friends over for cards is cheap.

And a spanking is still free (whether on the giving, or receiving end).

If you do have a few extra bucks - go out and have a good time - bring some friends.  After all, its the friends and times, and how you spend them that makes good times.

A good sentiment... even though the price of gas, and now the banks falling like dominoes means that everything will probably be going up 20% (except your salary, of course.)

Yeah, find fun ways to enjoy life that don't cost much.

We, as Americans, have a great park system (until they strip it out to build condos, or an industrial park or more "drill, baby, drill!")

...and we have some great beaches you can visit... (at least, until the offshore drilling mucks them up with spills. Give it ten years, on the outside.)

There's always going to the library... (unless McCain gets in, croaks, and Palin begins her jihad against freedom of speech)

Maybe a block party? (Except, according to the new PATRIOT II legislation, local authority has the right to shut down any "un-approved gathering."

Don't figure on being able to vist friends too much, if you've run afoul of the law, or ended up on some governmental "watch list." Most traffic and civic CCTV cameras will be equiped with retinal ID scan by the end of the decade. (Hint: wear sunglasses, even at night.)

No, just stay at home. Turn on the TV... watch government approved and supported channels like FOX NEWS...

...and try to remember what life was like before you voted another term for Bush, via Proxy.

I'm not affected really because I don't go out and party or go hang with friends at a bar anyway. I am very reclusive and spend about 99.98 percent of my time cloistered away inside the house, doing crafts or reading , or talking on the forrums here. I go out of the house on an average of like 1 day a week. And if I wasn't enrolled in the local highschool completion program at adult ed, I'd never leave my home with the exception of doctor appointments and the very rare trips to walmart for things I need.

And if I'd never of gotten into debt and never been careless with my money all those times, I probably could be approaching 100,000 right now. We estimate that by now I would of had about 40,000 dollars if it wasn't for racking up thoughsands of dollars in debt because I shopped so much on the credit card with no thought to when the bill came.

You have such good ideas and a positive outlook.  Host a movie night + potluck + spanking party.  Works for me!

Gee bipolar, you must be an awful lot of fun at a party!
What's your girlfriend's name, "Debbie Downer?"

I rarely say anything about spelling, grammar, or syntax, because I know that as soon as I point out a mote in someone's eye, a log becomes lodged in mine.

Having said that, the use of the preposition "of"" in place of the verb "have" drives me nuts.

I have, thankfully, been serendipitously blessed with an ample supply of nails to chew on.

Pop,

Well, the OP suggested the best way to get around the financial crisis is to "not participate." Um... yeah... unfortunately, I don't see any way out of the game. It's a little like saying, "Oh, I think entropy sucks, I think I'll just opt out of that."

i agree with the op. Some of the best times we have are the spur of the moment pot luck get-togethers. It costs everyone the price of one dish, a bag of chips, or whatever they bring and we have a blast.

Wow.  It's amazing that some people can't get past the partisan crap enough to realize that the op is right.  There are a number of inexpensive ways to gather and sya "Fuck you" to whatever party is inoffice to screw us over.

And Bipolar, if you wanna gather those folks, I sure could use a barn raising party.  Bring your hammer and we'll let you build the wall on the left.

Oh barn raising as in building the things, I was thinking barn raising as burning the things down.

Except for one silly little aspect of the whole process;

Whether you have 100k or 1k...if the whole world goes in the shitter, to accommodate all those folks who have 100k (and those that have 1k), they're going to print money to pay off those folks.

Which means that your 100k (or 1k) will be worth something less than 100k (or 1k).

Which means...you're in it just as deep.

Party on Wayne.

How many enjoyable things can you think of doing that does not cost money ? Entertainment, accoustic costs nothing , singing costs nothing, dancing costs nothing, just chatting with friends costs nothing.

Have we evolved so far that we have forgotten how to enjoy ourselves for free and the fun of it ?

Times in the past, folk enjoyed themselves without all our modern crap, they just got together and made their own entertainment.

If you need booze, brew it yourself, that also costs nothing.
