Yeee ha! You put on your gingham dress, I'll get out my dark suit, hitch up the buggy, and we'll have a grand time at the barn raising!

I find those kind of social gatherings to be quite a lot of fun, actually.  Not as stuffy as formal affairs.

Heck, toss in a jug or two of squeezin's and you really got a party ;)

Oh barn raising as in building the things, I was thinking barn raising as burning the things down.

That would be a barn razing ;)

Hey,

I know folks are talking doom and gloom about the economy - and let's face it.  It's bad.

But unless you have over $100,000 squirreled away in various accounts and investments, then you're probably going to be more or less alright so long as you are still working.

Except for one silly little aspect of the whole process;

Whether you have 100k or 1k...if the whole world goes in the shitter, to accommodate all those folks who have 100k (and those that have 1k), they're going to print money to pay off those folks.

Which means that your 100k (or 1k) will be worth something less than 100k (or 1k).

Which means...you're in it just as deep.

Party on Wayne.

How many enjoyable things can you think of doing that does not cost money ? Entertainment, accoustic costs nothing , singing costs nothing, dancing costs nothing, just chatting with friends costs nothing.

Have we evolved so far that we have forgotten how to enjoy ourselves for free and the fun of it ?

Times in the past, folk enjoyed themselves without all our modern crap, they just got together and made their own entertainment.

If you need booze, brew it yourself, that also costs nothing.

Or pretty darn close to nothing

barn raising?  i'm in!  i'll be the one in front of the barbque with a beer in one hand, a spatula in the other, tending to all the meat!

I like a girl that can tend to all the meat.

Save one of them cans of beer for the beer-butt chicken!

Beer butt chicken? You mean like chicken on the throne? (One of the few southern ways of BBQ that I actually have gotten to work for me.) Delicious!

Oh, and actually, the cost of barn razing has gone up... you usually use gas to start it off. (I actually went to one about a year ago, which was used as a training excersize for one of the local fire departments... I tagged along to video tape it... I try to make stock footage libraries of such things that I can use in low budget productions.)

A good sentiment... even though the price of gas, and now the banks falling like dominoes means that everything will probably be going up 20% (except your salary, of course.)

Yeah, find fun ways to enjoy life that don't cost much.

We, as Americans, have a great park system (until they strip it out to build condos, or an industrial park or more "drill, baby, drill!")

...and we have some great beaches you can visit... (at least, until the offshore drilling mucks them up with spills. Give it ten years, on the outside.)

There's always going to the library... (unless McCain gets in, croaks, and Palin begins her jihad against freedom of speech)

Maybe a block party? (Except, according to the new PATRIOT II legislation, local authority has the right to shut down any "un-approved gathering."

Don't figure on being able to vist friends too much, if you've run afoul of the law, or ended up on some governmental "watch list." Most traffic and civic CCTV cameras will be equiped with retinal ID scan by the end of the decade. (Hint: wear sunglasses, even at night.)

No, just stay at home. Turn on the TV... watch government approved and supported channels like FOX NEWS...

...and try to remember what life was like before you voted another term for Bush, via Proxy.

I think someone could use a hug :)

No....he'd probably catch a cold or develop a rash from the hugger. *sigh*

Beer Butt chicken ...

Take a beer can ... now, this next bit is REALLY important ... open the can.
Then (also important) drink 1/2 the beer.  (but not more than that).
Place the can on the grill and slide the smallish chicken (open end down) over the can ... affix the legs so it will stand on the grill.

Don't baste the bird, or drown it in BBQ sauce, just use your favorite light herbal rub.  better to use indirect heat as well.

The beer will boil over and bast the bird from the inside out - SOOO juicy,  SOOOO tender.  Slight hops or malt taste.

Don't use Guiness - there is a plastic contraption inside the Guiness cans that keep the beer cold.  Drink the Guiness and use a lesser beer for the chicken.
