well I'm not saying that anyone should limit themselves to one or the other. I was simply curious about an individuals preference.

Like both! I don't tend to use rope as a substitute for cuffs though. I use rope for harnesses or for binding bits of the body that couldn't be cuffed. For ankles and wrists ... I use cuffs as they are quicker and more comfortable. I quite like threading rope through the D rings of cuffs and using that to anchor the subject to the bondage bed though. That's if I'm not using chain for that purpose ...

I like it all. Rope, especially silk rope, can be a very sensual bondage experience, but it does take time (and expertise).

Leather ankle and wrist cuffs (often called a serving set) are a requirement for all my subs. It makes for quick and easy bondage using rope, chains, my specially built hog tie. . .

I tend to avoid metal cuffs, unless I am RPing an interrogation scene.

personally i prefer steel cuffs. leather cuffs and i have issues. so ropes or steel are the best option otherwise i am gonna go slippin off somewhere..hehe..

but the feel of steel just cant be replaced.

I like them both.  There is nothing like the cold steel against my warm skin.   But there is also nothing like the time/effort it takes to bind and tie with rope.   That can be as satisfying as being bound/tied itself.   I can't say I prefer one over the other.

My Master does some incredible rope work, rope has fewer unintentional pressure points than steel cuffs and since there is always a razor sharp knife available, an opps is more easily dealt with.  While I prefer rope, there is a lot to be said for cuffs, leather or steel.  Oh oh and when He simply uses His hand to fasten my wrists together...I like that too!  But then I'm a bondage slut so it's all good.

I love japanese rope though I am often disappointed that it does not leave marks.

I'm kinda partial to chains and leather. Although I've done some really fun stuff involving sewing thread also. "Be very still, must not break the thread. No matter what."

I usually use cuffs, partly for convience partly because I'm still learning rope. Also when I use rope it tends to be a conscious effort to use rope, means I've got to grab the rope, grab the rope book and actively decide, ok I'm going to start with this, then move on to this. The closeness of rope is nice, gotta stay close holding it tight. I should practice a bit more.

I probably should have worded it better earlier, i like rope and leather cuffs , I just stay away from "metal hand cuffs" since if play gets a bit rough, metal handcuffs have been known to chip wrist bones and stuff.

I definitely prefer rope.  You can get expensive rope and inexpensive rope.  I know it seems rope takes a bit longer to secure but that's not true with a very small amount of practice.  Rope "cuffs" can be tied in under 30 seconds with very little effort.  I personally like the whole "I did that to you and it's beautiful" aspect of binding someone.
