While there are a number of threads on this issue, I am seeking to focus this topic on one thing:

"How do these people's affairs/indiscretions or failures of their public lives affect anything that goes on with their ability to lead or to fulfill their job descriptions"

I mean we all know that JFK was screwing a list of women from Marylin Monroe to Sam Gincani the mob boss's girlfriend.

Does that take away from any of the wonderful things that JFK did while he was in office?? NASA, The Peace Core, etc

Thomas Jefferson was getting Jungle Fever with Sally Hemmings, does that some how destroy the value of The Declaration of Independence or the founding of the library of Congress and national archives?

Did one soldier die in a foreign land, was one penny taken from the poor, was anyone, anywhere at anytime hurt by Bill Clinton's affair with Monica? Except maybe hillary and chelsa?

So why is this Non News item on my television, internet or even part of my reality????

Well, Jim McGreevey did hire someone to work on homeland security who is an Israeli citizen by the name of Golan Cipel and with whom he was alleged to have had an extrmarital affair with. Mr. Cipel was at one point prepared to file a sexual discrimination complaint against the governor.

So ... in this case, someone with no qualifications was hired as a homeland security advisor for a state. Definitely overstepping bounds.

I could care less who politicians boink. Just don't screw around with my life.

Because we-the-people are more interested in gossip than in news. I think that many of us have forgotten that there's a difference.

Fact is, scandal gets more attention than hard news, and sex scandal gets more attention than anything. If all at the same time a major corporation announced huge layoffs, a candidate gave a detailed position speech about immigration policy, a congressman was caught taking bribes and Paris Hilton was injured in a car accident while giving some guy a blowjob, which story would most media outlets lead with? I'd like to think a few wouldn't lead with Paris, but if there were pictures or video, I'm sure that would be the top story everywhere but public radio. Which story would likely have the most follow-up in coming weeks? Which story would likely get googled most often? The media are giving us what we want.

Scandal involving politicians makes the news fairly often because the politician's opponents have an interest in seeing that it does and they have the access to the media. The media is kind of lazy these days, regurgitating what's given to them rather than going out and getting facts. The media are also businesspeople. Media outlets that focus on news rather than gossip don't get the big audiences.

That's an oversimplification, I think.

The Media are OWNED by Corporations with their own agenda. If the companies that own the media want a war so the they can sell more weapons and services, then they will arrange one.

The Media *IS* the problem.

If they told the truth, there would be a Revolution.

JFK didn't create NASA; it was created in 1958 by a legislative act. JFK doing wonderful things in debatable; I tend to think of him as a mediocre President who was turned into a martyr by his admirers.

Yep....'Why we care', is because there is a good chance that such things are indicative of a personality/mentality that thinks of other human beings as merely objects to be used for gratification, which can end up getting people hurt or killed in the pursuit of power.
