Some alternatives to Listerine that I think are safer (though I may well get corrected of course):

Toothpaste
Vic's Vapor Rub (may be too strong for you!)
IcyHot
Tiger Balm
Cinammon oil
Cinammon and peppermint breath strips
Bengay
Toast muscle rub
Menthol
Ginger

Test whatever you're going to use on a small patch of skin first. I'd also suggest testing it on the outside of your asshole before putting it inside. Have fun!

I am curious....How many of these things have you actually had up your ass? Have you ever inserted one of these into someone elses ass? What were the results? I am sure you wouldn't suggest something like this, unless you have tried it first, so please share your experiences with us.

Well 6 of those have been used on me with no bad effect.

I'm curious... why the attitude over the helpful post by daddystouch?

Some of those are actually common items used among a lot of people.

When I see someone suggesting to others, that they try something. I like to know what kind of experience this suggestion is coming from .

People tend to poo poo anything that seems dangerous.  I have tried the range, frankly many are a pain in the ass, and yet I live.  When I see these threads I always feel that people are assuming the extreme, 1 gal bags, days on end of the same play, non stop.
Dang.. I had at least 5 puns set up... LOL it was very hard to resist using them all.

Not safe at all. i once had to contact poison control and they told me that mouth wahses have something in them that when ingested turn into salicylate (aspirin).  Also, the mucus lining is very sensitive and can be burned by the ingredients in listerine.

Toothpaste has the same fluoride risk as mouthwash.

Vick's Vapor Rub, Icy Hot, Tiger Balm, BenGay and liquid Menthol all have the menthol issue. Menthol is a severe irritant to mucous membranes. These can cause chemical burns to normal skin and blistering of mucous membranes. (Not familiar with Toast muscle rub, but I'd think it's probably the same).

Ginger is used with some regularity. I wouldn't use it, but some folks find that a finger of fresh ginger gets them off. *shrugs*

If you absolutely -have- to use one of these heating products, I'd strongly suggest sticking to the 'warming' personal lubricants. There are several brands on the market now-days, and these are designed to be used on mucous membranes and to not do excessive damage during sexual activity.

I am constantly amazed I have lived so long without health issues.  But, I also used to dangle off the monkey bars hanging over a concrete playground.
I will say that the cinnamon oils is something people should not touch, that stuff will peel skin.

Yeah... sometimes, knowing the risks, you can choose to do something just because you want the experience. The important thing for me is informed consent -- lay out the risks honestly, and then let people decide for themselves what they want to do. (If I had a play-partner who really wanted to try some of the above, with both of us knowing the risks, I'd probably do it with hir, regardless, because despite the warnings, I believe that people should have the choice about what they want to do with their bodies, once they know what the cost may be. My only real exceptions are things that could result in death, like breath play, where there's no warning and little chance to remedy the situation after the fact -- I don't want to go to jail so someone can get their kicks for the night).

Any of the 'warming' products cause a nasty reaction when in contact with my pink bits yet ginger is fine. Show me a bottle of KY Warming and watch me run in the other direction, that stuff was simply awful. Flavored lubes? Same bad reaction and they are also made for those bits.

Chili pepper hands (after cutting them up, washing most off and then playing with me) have been used on me without a problem too. IcyHot.. that was fine too. I love Tiger Balm but omg NOT near the eyes lol.

Personally I would experiment on myself with very small amounts, latex gloves and a wet washcloth.

I think what bugs me most is that people do not ask their potential partner for details.
People on forums are not the ones choosing to use listerine (which btw, I have tried to a limited extent).  People tend to assume the worst possible senario.
its going to cause alcohol poisoning! (how much?)
its going to kill bacteria! (it comes back)
it will burn! (in what way? peeling skin like with cinnamon oil?  Or pain in the ass discomfort that makes you beg for release.. in an erotic way.
Sure things can be extreme in the wrong hands.  Thats why the OP should ask questions of the guy wanting to use listerine, instead of getting knee jerk reactions on the extremes.
Take risks on your own if you want to find out, but always in moderation until you see what the reaction can be.

I always wondered when my Mistress mentioned ginger if it was a threat, or a promise... Good suggestions, have fun!

Applying it like a salve, not an enema, can be useful.  It hurts/stings. So do ginger figs and cinnamon oil (in tiny tiny tiny) amounts, or more if they have the tolerance.

At the time that the dom told me this, I didn't really think much of it. However after thinking about it later, I wondered how safe it was and if others had tried it. I wanted to hear about a range of experiances, which I have definately gotten. Rest assured, I wouldn't play with anyone without going over specific details and safey concerns beforehand.

Yea, your probibly right. However, when some one suggests that other people try something, I don't see what's wrong with asking how much experience they have with it. I will try to reword things in the future, so I don't come off so bitchy.

I have a problem with a suggestion here... not the person suggesting it.  Personally, talking to someone who calls themselves dominant, that suggest something that clearly gets such a reaction as this thread has gotten... well... he would be the last person I used as a safe gauge of anything.  If he doesn't know the dangers and mention them at the time he proudly states his kink and doesn't talk about that aspect as well... bye bye.  How does one put their safety and future well being in someone and trust that they are safe with one who does not address all issues included in a certain action?  (Because a bad accident or physical problem can result in not being able to work... besides the health issues and life is no longer what it once was.  And that is a real pain in the ass.

(Disclaimer:  I do not know if he addressed the safety issues, but it sounds doubtful.)

The general health of a person, long range health concerns and weird and little known things do happen to the human body and if someone wants to play around with that... go ahead... but there is no way in hell, after what I have seen advocating for people with rare and strange illnesses, would I let something ignorant happen.

It is smart to come to a board like this to find answers to something you do not know.  It is just one way to get some ideas for research and opinions.  Check those opinions out, research and cover your ass... so to speak, until you have a good idea of what you are dealing with.  Some things that people do are not well researched or documented, so you will have to have some medical understanding and sometimes that is hard to find.  These boards, although populated by those that don't have a clue... are also populated by those that do.  Some dom one has known a week that talks risky behavior is not the one that should be asked about this.

I once dated a woman for whom I would have done anything if she would have actually used listerine for its intended purpose.
