I'd STILL join the Navy and see the world!
Discuss.

You know, that is something that always made me very happy; that I could be part of the "Tip of the Spear" and come home to see my family and friends arguing amoungst themselves oblivious to what goes on in the world, safe and happy (sometimes) because *I* did my job!
*What a beautiful country we have!*
*Crying*

P.S. we wearn't actually the ..."Tip of the Spear",...people like Dom Aviator were and,...our "ugly cousins"...The Marines!
But,...every job is important in the military!
D.A. could'nt have flown if it was't for the guys on the Tankers delivering "high test" to him.
It's funny, life is like a circle!

Back around 85 I came very close to joining the Navy, I got so far as (been a long time so I don't remember the wording but it was something) testing for officer candidate school.. something like that. But I freaked and changed my mind.
It felt too invasive for me.

Looking back I made the right decision but I didn't end up 'doing' anything productive which is a shame. That is something I regret, letting my timidity rule my life for far far too long.

The list is too long, the ramifications of unintended consequences too scary...for instance as a man who went thru a horrible marriage and a bitter divorce, this would seem easy, would it not....but lose the bitch and I don't have the son...who has been nothing but a joy from day one...nah I'll just stick with the decisions i have made...what the hell I've already paid for those!

I tried to join the Navy... they sent me home saying I needed to eat more... I was too small to join.  I hear they have changed that.

If I had life to do over again... I'd have picked different parents or a different time to be born in.  Like when science and medicine could fix the genetic gene pool I swam in.

But... despite the good and the bad... life is good and I plan on making the end part even better!

If I had my life to live over.... I don't think I'd do anything different (except maybe sleep through the 4 sucky years of high-school). I kinda like the person my life has shaped me up to be.

I think I would join something like the Merchant Marines.

The Navy recruiter came to my house in my senior year of high school.  Of course this was after I told him no on the telephone!  I had two of my buddies to thank for that; they gave the guy my name.  The Marines, Air Force, and Army all called me a dozen times too.  The closest I got to being in the military was taking two years of ROTC in college.

If I'd have stayed with that program, I'd probably be a Captain in Iraq or Afghanistan.  So I don't regret dropping it for a minute.

I regret a couple of women I should have steered clear of, and I regret fucking around and goofing off through much of my twenties.  I could have had a medical degree if I'd actually taken my schooling seriously and not changed majors 4 different times.  LOL.  But I had a good time.  The 90's were a blast.  All in all, I don't regret too much.

If I had my life over......I would have stayed in the Navy!

I would be much better off now if I had.......

Either that or knuckled down and studied hard so I could have done officer training......

However its not good to dwell on the what ifs of life.....
