ownedgirlie -> My computer is rejecting Yahoo - Why?? (7/20/2008 3:25:17 PM)

Help?  Anyone?  I can open IM, I can open Yahoo's home page (only the logo doesn't show up), but I can't get into any Yahoo pages, like...well, like my mail!  I have deleted cookies, temporary internet files, ran my virus scanner, ran my spyware scanner...

Any suggestions?  I keep getting "Cannot find server".  Argh!!!  [sm=angry.gif]

are you running internet explorer with no addons?

ownedgirlie -> RE: My computer is rejecting Yahoo - Why?? (7/20/2008 5:20:05 PM)

I tried the links.  No go.  I can't get into some of my banking sites, either.

Kyttyn, I don't believe I had add-ons, but I realized I am running IE6 so I am upgrading to IE7 to see if that will help.  Something funky is going on!!

hopelessfool -> RE: My computer is rejecting Yahoo - Why?? (7/20/2008 5:23:11 PM)

Did you try going through messenger? I know you can access some links through messenger. Does your brower block the sites, try lowering the internet security, and trying.

Sounds like Vista.

I'm on XP.  And it's not a problem related only to Yahoo.  I can get into some sites and not others.  Even after downloading IE7.  No clue here.  Ugh.

CalifChick -> RE: My computer is rejecting Yahoo - Why?? (7/20/2008 6:49:36 PM)

Did you go to Tools, then Options, then Security, and check your security level and the list of prohibited sites to see if any are there?

I sure did, Cali.  I have no idea what's up.  My virus scan deleted 3 trojans.  But since they're deleted, wouldn't that mean the problem goes away?

I really appreciate your attempts to troubleshoot!!  [sm=flowers.gif]

Thadius -> RE: My computer is rejecting Yahoo - Why?? (7/20/2008 7:18:49 PM)

A possible temporary fix, would be to roll back your computer to the last time you were able to use those sites...

ownedgirlie -> RE: My computer is rejecting Yahoo - Why?? (7/20/2008 7:30:05 PM)

Hi Thadius,

Well, that would be this morning when I rolled out of bed.  And then I got something to eat, got some things done around the house and returned to it, and it didn't work.  What gives??

Pulling my hair out here.  Argh!!

I appreciate the ideas, though!

kittinSol -> RE: My computer is rejecting Yahoo - Why?? (7/20/2008 7:35:37 PM)

Delete the Yahoo application from your program files, and reinstall it altogether? Hope you solve it.

hopelessfool -> RE: My computer is rejecting Yahoo - Why?? (7/20/2008 7:37:57 PM)

did you try with a different browser? Possibly, try with firefox or netscape see if its and Ie glich.

ownedgirlie -> RE: My computer is rejecting Yahoo - Why?? (7/20/2008 7:38:03 PM)

Thanks, kittinSol.  It's Yahoo's main page that is giving me problems:  Yahoo.com.  As well as trying to get to any online link  from it.  IM seems to be working, however.  So far I am having problems with Yahoo's site and Citibank's site.

I'm possessed!

Alot of malware removes restore points from XP, I have seen it. I have built PCs with the strongest bestest version of XP Pro, the corporate edition, and I myself created those restore points, yet they are gone.

You have two options if you want restore points, rename them TXT files or some shit and copy them to another directory, or better yet to a CDROM. That is the only way to keep them from being deleted. Again, another shortcoming of Winblows.

Fucking garbage, all of it, and all stolen. They had better software in 1985, called Desqview. It did just about everything Winblows does, but had alot less vulnerability. No users except the owner were allowed to change any program, only files. Gates took that, fuckled it all up with all the automatic bullshit and turned it into Win95, AND IT WAS TEN YEARS OLD !

I am not impressed to say the least. Now I am seeing PCs advertised that have been downgraded from Vista to XP Pro. What does that say about Windows ?

They can take their new garbage and shove it where, oh wait, maybe I should be nice. Take it and put it somewhere where it will not get a sunburn.

As far as the Yahoo problem, most likely you hit them at a time when it was not working right. Then the sheeple tell you to clear the cache and delete cookies. NEVER do that.

That deleting the cache and cookies thing comes from the days of the 486, it does not apply now, even to the piece if shit I am on. I had 98SE and went to XP, and I renamed the install directory and not only did I not delete the cookies, I moved them to the proper place for XP to use them. And that is how I logon here.

Clearing the cache is a joke as well, you can't do it and I can prove it. But I am not going to unless someone asks, I have already said it and I loathe repeating myself. Ask, but until then I am not wasting my time, but the proof is right there on your PC, I need no cites or quotes. Do what I say and the proof will be before your eyes even without internet access. You can unplug the network cable if you want, and the proof will still present itself. You can't delete anything in the cache in Windows.
