It is often times like this that I am reminded that hardware is the part of a system you can hit with a hammer.

As far as the Yahoo problem, most likely you hit them at a time when it was not working right. Then the sheeple tell you to clear the cache and delete cookies. NEVER do that.

Hi T,

Well I did delete cookies, but why do you say to never do that?  Aside from the obvious, now all the sites I go to don't "remember" me...sniff sniff...and it's a pain in the ass to have to deal with that.  But I'm curious where you're coming from there.

But it's not just Yahoo. It's Citibank, too, and who knows who else.  There's some funky business going on that I've never experienced before, and I'm perplexed.

what im seeing it could be your isp that is having problems. if different web site are not loading and you use different browsers that is what i think it is. because you comp wont not load just a couple of websites but your isp could have locked down the web sites seeing how now they have programs that are locking people out of web sites because of cild porn and different things.

Owned, do you have or have you updated zone alarm lately? Are your security settings the same, I noticed some of my zone alarm stuff had changed and was blocking access to some places and some progs.Maybe check your encryption levels too.If you dont have zonealarm check your firewall settings...just a couple of thoughts.

Try IE to tools, internet options, then privacy tab.

check in SITES

see if yahoo and that citibank are on the block list that will not allow those sites to accept cookies.

Also check same area but SECURITY tab, check the SITES button there too for the correct settings.

When did your AV scanner find the trojans?

If it was roughly concurrent with the present problem, you are still infected! The problem is likely the trojans you thought you removed. I've seen this happen with AVG's free version. Here's how to get rid of them if this is the problem:

Disable, turn off, your existing antivirus program.
Get avast antivirus from here:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
install avast and it should prompt you to schedule a virus scan the next time you boot up. Do so then reboot and go find something else to do for a while.

Good luck.

Maybe a browser hijack?

What software are you using to scan?

Also I'd reccomend taking a look with HijackThis to see if theres anything weird.

Also what were the names of the trojan's etc that came up. A few relatively nasty little virii stealth themselves and just keep coming back. I think it was realyellowpage or something like that a few years ago that ended up causing me innumerable headaches until I realized that and removed the registry entry that was letting it hide out.
