HarryVanWinkle -> I'm honest (7/11/2008 11:03:59 PM)

As a cab driver, I long ago learned that when I meet a customer who starts telling me how honest he is, to get money up front.

I see a lot of profiles here that start off with talking about how honest the member is.  Am I the only one who wants to hide my wallet when I see this?

DiurnalVampire -> RE: I'm honest (7/11/2008 11:07:25 PM)

I just figure honest is about the same as any of the other buzz words that everyone thinks we all want to hear. Same thing about wen someone tells me how good looking they are, how loyal they will be or hiw submissive they are... Tis all fluff
I make those decisions when I get to know you, you cant tell me how it is going to be upfront

Truth in advertising = non sequitur

slaveboyforyou -> RE: I'm honest (7/12/2008 12:12:45 AM)

A couple of days ago I was buying some beer at a convience store down the street.  A woman walked in asking for directions, and I started talking to her.  I and the clerk were both trying to tell her how to get to where she was going.  The clerk bagged up my six pack, and I walked out.  When I got home, I took out my wallet and I thought, "Damn, I didn't pay him did I?"  So I got back in my car and went down there.  I just couldn't feel right knowing that I forgot to pay for my purchase.  He looked surprised when I walked in and told him.  I paid him, and that was that.

An honest person is always honest.  You have a voice in the back of your mind that won't let you be dishonest.

...good for you, you're clearly an honest man. However i do tend to agree with the OP....... those who say "look how honest i am" tend to be the ones who, after shaking hands, you have to count your fingers.

Shadow-tiger -> RE: I'm honest (7/12/2008 12:40:52 AM)

Huh, now I'm going back and looking at my motivations for the few times I have claimed to be honest. Note to self: if you're being honest, don't mention it. Just do it. Gotcha.

I'm kinda weird that way too. If it didn't come to me fair and square, I don't want it. I just don't want to fuck with my Karma. I've had enough trouble digging myself out of one ditch; don't want to dig myself into another.

And, most important point, it isn't right.

A great example of actions speaking louder than words, slaveboy.

Oxymoron, surely. [/pedant]

pahunkboy -> RE: I'm honest (7/12/2008 4:19:01 AM)

if a profile says "no games"-  I dont believe it.  If a profile is negative I think- I would be the next car of his trainwreck.

if someone says "trust me", I tend not to.

if someone has a problem with this person and that person and never seems to see the goodness in life- then I limit my time if any on the person.

Yesderday- a bible family came to me as I was spraying weed killer on weeds.  [I got a great deal- $4 for a gallon, all because Englies was 2nd on the label]   Anyhow when I said I did not want to get wrote up by the city for weeds- he said the city  ought to pay for that and the family seen weeds left and right thru-out town.  To which I replied, "we have to get along with eachother"

Often the ugly in the other person is the self looking into a mirror.   the negative begets negative.

BTW- the next babtist that claims they never heard of fred felps and is opening a "non-denominational" church- and presides over a flock of clergy/pastors in North Coralina, ....argh, never mind.

Weed killer.   every house needs some.

When people talk about honesty, morality and integrity, I've a tendency to run a mile. I've been bitten by a moral honest integrity whore, give me a real whore anyday of the week, they are far more honest.

Termyn8or -> RE: I'm honest (7/12/2008 7:48:31 AM)

I am not honest. While I do deal fair and square with people, pit me against a corporation or the gov, they are fair game. Every dirty trick in the book is allowed.

SBFY, yes it was honorable to go back and pay for your beer. To me though the difference is whether or not it got rang up. If the cash drawer is not right the cashier has to pay. That is fucking over a person. If not rung up, enjoy your free beer on some faceless corporation.

Funny, the olman and I just had a discussion about this yesterday. Talking about the people who have lied to us and so forth, but it came around to why we do not lie to people. It is because we have no reason to. We owe noone. Well I do owe a buddy a hundred for my latest guitar but he is in no hurry, maybe I'll pay up next week, but I will pay up. Other than that, everybody owes us. Some don't.

You know what, there are a few people who have never asked for anything, even a cigarette, those are the ones who gain the most respect here.

There are some cases when I am not completely forthcoming. On a personal level. Like if I think someone is butt ugly, there is no need to say it. But when people come and tell me their tales of woe, my honesty can be painful. One guy over here with his story, I pulled out a camera and told him to sit still, because I wanted to have a picture of the stoooooooopidest motherfucker on the planet.

In other words, if you want bullshit, talk to someone else. But honest ?  Nope. Never was, never will be. Because you are either 100% or you ain't. And I ain't and I have no desire to be. While I won't lie to or cheat friends, I reserve the right to do it whenever it is an appropriate target, and I can get away with it.

For example, Ohio wants you to tattle on yourself about out of state online purchases and remit the Ohio sales tax. Are you fucking kidding me ? SB, are you even that honest ? Fuck them.

I will be straight with the people in my life, but I will not be honest with the world in general until they are honest with me. It goes two ways, or it doesn't go at all.

DarkSteven -> RE: I'm honest (7/12/2008 8:10:23 AM)

I was once interviewing someone for a position with my synagogue.  I knew that he was a dedicated, good worker who had been taken advantage of in his previous position, at another synagogue in town.

He told me that he had left his other job "because I don't like being lied to."  I instantly replied, "Well, I guess you wouldn't be able to work for me then."  His expression was priceless!  Last thing he expected.

The fact that I was willing to joke about honesty made him realize that he could trust me when he was hired.
