What he said, exactly, we won’t know until 8 p.m. EDT tonight, but Rev. Jesse Jackson is already very, very sorry for a “crude and hurtful” remark about Barack Obama that he made to a reporter Sunday when he didn’t realize a microphone was running. In damage control mode, Jackson emphasized his support for Obama’s campaign as he distanced himself from comments that will air on Fox’s “The O’Reilly Factor” this evening. (Fox News is owned by News Corp., which also owns Dow Jones & Co., publisher of The Wall Street Journal.) In a statement Jackson explained that his remark was an aside in a conversation about how Obama addresses issues in the black community: “My appeal was for the moral content of his message to not only deal with the personal and moral responsibility of black males, but to deal with the collective moral responsibility of government and the public policy which would be a corrective action for the lack of good choices that often led to their irresponsibility.” Jackson’s pre-emptive apology has fueled online speculation about his colorful language, which was offensive enough for his son, Illinois Democratic Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. to say he was “deeply outraged and disappointed in Reverend Jackson’s reckless statements” in a statement intended to “reject and repudiate his ugly rhetoric.” http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2008/07/09/jesse-jackson-apologizes-for-crude-and-hurtful-obama-remarks/?mod=googlenews_wsj The son rejects the father..... That one doesn't surprise me, he often jokes that he is surprised his father didn't name him Selma. There are far worse things that came out of his mouth, it's probably a good thing that I didn't generally bring a video camera or tape recorder, while going out on a fishing charter.
